Hands a WreckBraud Spectrum Anybody else have trouble with their hands cracking and itching? This is driving me nuts. Have been tinting 20 years and all of a sudden this nearly eats my hands up. Tried cleaning bottles. Using bottled water. Just baby shampoo for slipperiness. Any ideas? Film Maverick you can try hand lotion, but it sounds bad if you've never had the problem and now you do. I've just gotten used to the dryness - my wife is always trying to get me to use her lotion. tintdude welcome to tintdude.com Braud Spectrum! some guys have good luck using "bag balm" or cornhuskers lotion shop here's what i do. get a pair of latex gloves, put vaseline all over your hands, and i mean put ALOT of vaseline on. put on the gloves and go to bed. when you get up, take the gloves off, wash your hands real good, and PRESTO, INSTANT GIRL HANDS!!! seriously, it may take doing this a couple nights depending on how bad your hands are. but it works. cctint As my great great grandpappy use to say back in the 1800's when he was tinting, a little corn huskers lotion every day on the hands after tinting for 14 hours aways kept his hands like a baby's bottom! oldtinter Bag Balm. Mdog yes. Spesh guys don't want girl hands though do they? I want man hands with scratches, cuts, callouses etc, shows I have put in a hard days work.....hand cream for a bloke is only good for one thing !!!! Braud Spectrum Thanks you guys. I'll try some bag balm. And the vasoline at night too. Hafta get some plastic gloves. Got an algergy to latex. I used to use corn Huskers many years ago. They really are bad right now. Kills me to wash my hair. Even went to the dermatologist. He said...and I quote " Keep um outta water" yeah right Least I know I'm not alone. And thank you for the welcome. I am thrilled to find this site. Last weekend I was tinting a convertable BMW. Hadn't done one in a while. I had forgotten that those D & P's raised up a 1/2 inch when you closed the doors. For the life of me I couldn't remember how to fake it out and make it think it was closed so they'd raise up while the doors were open. I found it here. DontWorryItWillDry Welcome to the boards BS, I thought I was the only one with that problem. Even my derm said to keep them out of water. I'm like..ok..so how am I supposed to keep payin' your ass if I can't work?!?! Anyways, had mild success with some meds....but mostly they stay dry and cracking. I know TD remembers seeing me with 3 of my fingers all bandaged up at Amgen. I did that to keep my fingers from drying in between offices. If I let them dry...they end up splitting open the skin and I end up with an open wound. Sprinter the baby shampoo is alot eaiser on the hands then say dawn or joy, those two will tear my hands up! Braud Spectrum Yes DWIWD And those splits take forever to heal cause it just keeps breaking open when I bend my fingers. Even on my palms too. They got so bad last spring I had to actually get a JOB! doing something that required me to do nothing. I hated it. This is what I do. And I'm good at it. But if they continue to do this...and it's fixing to break loose and get reeeeaaally busy... I'm going to be in a world of poop. At least when they are wet from working they don't hurt so bad. And they do stay wet all day. The last two fingers are especially bad as I surmise the drip ends up there and lingers. I cleaned out the water bottles thinking bacteria may be lurking. My diagnoses is it's kinda like having athleetes hands instead of feet. I hate to hold out my hand to receive change at the grocery store. I know they think I must have leprosy! Tinitman Right now its my knuckles. It looks like I am dragging them on the ground as I walk. Got rid of the split fingers with Bag Balm. That stuff is great, can't beat teat ointment. 8) Spesh Try tea tree oil or emu oil.........great stuff for fixing that sort of shite.....also honey does wonders for the skin as well.....honey is expensive compared to vaso but works a treat cctint Is'nt it kind of messy retrieving you car keys or change out of your pocket with honey all over them? S and S Vaseline Moisture Plus for dry and Cracked Hands!!! tintbypaul The bag balm works great but instead of latex gloves use old pair of socks to cover your hands at night DontWorryItWillDry I hear ya on that BS....giving cash at the cash register! I feel weird too...but I have other things to worry about instead of what a cashier thinks of my skin. At it's worst, I used to put a derm cream on the cracks/splits and bandage them to keep them moist before I went to sleep. It helped somewhat to the point they weren't splitting open at night. Then during the daytime.....everytime I washed my hands....lotion went on right away. Again, if it gets bad like it did a few months ago, I'm wearing bandages again on my fingers all day. I'll just tell them I play a lot of basketball. Ever watch an NBA game? Most players wear bandages around their knuckles. Olfablade I use a pumice stone on my hands where they used to crack, and they don't anymore because I rub away the dead skin before it splits. DontWorryItWillDry Olfa, But what if there are splits already? Use the stone still? oldtinter Bagbalm..end of story. pmuzik not necessarily lol I use LOTIL it's made in the uk and works pretty well but I will try bagbalm oh wise one DontWorryItWillDry Soooooo...where does one get this Bag Balm stuff? oldtinter Walgreens..Comes in a snappy green tin...Good reading on the can too. Protint I think I heard that stuff can be used on the nads after a sweaty salty sandpaper sorta day. Olfablade DW, Yes use the stone on the splits! atypicaldave Love the vaseline and glove trick. Does the glove have five fingers? Ask my better half, 'Soft or hard' and she'll always say, "Soft hands, hard ...ah hum..er...head! Mdog my fingers go in stages :lol they are perfectly fine then all the sudden they want to start peeling and cracking then they go back to being ok :confused Rama My hands crack and bleed too, but not as bad as some of you it seems. I notice if I don't drink enough water, my hands will crack worse. You might try upping your water intake and see if it makes a little difference. Also, some good aloe gel can help. I use an aloe gel, that is mostly aloe, and also has some comfrey in it. Its relatively clear, you don't want the lotion stuff, it doesn't have as much aloe in it. The gel soaks in fairly quick. |
