Dodge Avenger

I think I have lost my touch doing the dry shrink. Yesterday it took 3 trys to do a '99 maxima, I'm confused, but this Avenger, I couldn't do it. I tried the backglass 2 times then 2 pieced it. What about that?
What technique do you use for dryshrinking?
I'll tell you exactly what I do and maybe you can help me. I just get the car in the shop spray soapy water on the bg then wipe off with paper towels (I used to clean it with windex but it made it too clean I guess the film would stick to the glass, no float). Then I let the water dry then I wet my hand run an anchor in the H pattern, lay film on cut excess, and start shrinking.
It is soooo weird man its like I don't know how to do it anymore its scary. I just could not shrink that dam bg today. The real problem is the customer was sitting there watching me the whole time, watched me mess up two pieces and then two piece the thing. What am I doing wrong?
Have you tried using baby powder, or dryersheets or fabric sizer?
The Avenger is a difficult shrink if you don't have the 'touch' you speak of, i'd try spraying down the window, squeegeeing clean and drying with paper towels then spread some baby powder on the back glass evenly and cover it all, then take a wete paper towel and make an H pattern, lay out your film and anchor to the H, then shrink away, i think you'll like it. i LOVE it and that's pretty much what i do 99 percent of the time.
I never use the H, just the horizontal swipe of wet stuff. But I like to be different.
Thanks alot I will absolutley try the baby powder shrink. Ot what do you and TD use? I have not had much luck with the fabric sizer as some of you may remember thats why I went to the dry shrink.
Sizing, wax, nothing...I change just to prevent boredom.
Sizer is a dry shrink method. Sizer for me, i prefered using a wet dryer sheet smeared on, and let dry, but i became very sick from them, and a former member came up with fabric sizer as a replacement, been using ever since, although in a different way than he suggested.
Thats amazing that you use wax, I would really have to see it to believe it.
Hows that td don't leave me hangin. Whats your sizing method different than he suggested?
Instead of spraying on heavy and waiting 30 minutes for it to dry, i spray it on and wipe it around with a blue shop towel wraped around a sponge. it dries quick, and i wipe the dry sizer off with a dry shop towel down to take any dust off right before laying the film on it. it reacts almost as well as dryer sheets during shrinking.
I got a '93 bonneville to do so I will try the baby powder on it, but I think mainly I just lost the feel somehow.
Ot when you use wax and you go to install it doesn't the water bead right off the tint?? How you gonna squeegee the water out of the film when you can't get the water your spraying to stay on long enough to squeegee?
You may find that the dryer sheets will work better on that car, with the H anchor being up higher on the window due to the concave curve at the bottom...just a suggestion.
Thanks, I may try it but I have never used dryer sheets cause of the mess and extra steps involved, not to mention the sickness that comes with it. I'll probably end up going back to the nothing shrink, but I would like to get the hang of the powder for those more difficult cars(vette).
Are there any advantages to only using the two vertical anchors on the sides with no anchor in the middle running horizontally? I might have to try that too.
You guys telling me the old bonne is a tough backglass to shrink? What if I dry shrink the entire glass will it be messed up on install. I'll probably do what Ot said dry up top and wet down under. Sounds good to me.
Yeah, if my memory isn't completely shot on that, doesn't it have a little reverse flip toward the bottom?
Aint it great having an old man up in front messin everything up so you don't have to.. I'm just kiddin, your input here is superior to everyone here. You are greatly appreciated.
