Easy to Remove Tint?Home | Forum | Lo-Fi Version | Site Map
Posted by: MikeP Hello, I am considering tinting my crown vic. Is there such a thing as tint that will be easier to remove than regular tint by way of less adhesive etc? I ask as folks in my state seem to get lots of "tint too dark" repair orders from the local police. If that should happen to me I would rather have tint applied that is easier to remove than the regular style. Thanks Mike Sorry, anything will be tough to remove, and anything will be equally tough to install on that Crown Vic. 3M's Color Stable film does come off with very little glue left behind, especially when it's hot. Huper Optik also comes off the same way. Hmmm.... not to sound smart or anything, but have you thought about just doing a "legal" tint and not worring about it. removing tint is a nightmare. lost of elbow grease invloved. nah its easy. 2-12 gauge shells or a granade and its all gone remember the blowtorch and gasoline removal? i remember the guy telling the other guy to remove his tint with a blowtorch yeah i threw in the gas but the blowtorch was real i remember that, the guy's window exploded after a few seconds Are you serious? Someone was actually that stupid?? Talk about the lack of even an ounce of common sense? WOW! yeah somebody found that post on another site, it wasnt from any advice given here desert smoke 2 comes off with little glue left behind. I've only dealt with two different types of film since i have been in the biz. what i have found to work pretty well to get the glue off, is when your peeling the tint off, pull back across the film that is still applied to the glass at about a 30 degree angle and pull ever so slowly. takes some time to get it off but sure beats scrubbing a back glass for 2 hrs. 3M Colorstable comes off very easy, has me woried though. Why does it come off so easy? i just retinted my car and it had SG (sshhh) on it that was 6 years old. it didn't leave any glue on the back glass but it did on the sides. kinda worried me too. straight ammonia works really well softens the glue just remember to wear a respirator it's serious stuff man Thank you all for many suggestions. I particularly like the suggestion to install legal tint, :beer , but that wouldnt be any fun 8) A couple of years ago I made a joke about the gas thing. I had a customer tell me that he soaked his camaro rear window in gas to remove tint. I use Simple Pink to get the glue off. well, i sweat my film off, but in the event that leaves me with a back glass full of glue, i've got this stuff called 'speed strip' it's an industrial adhesive remover. it can be obtained froma company called bell janitorial in texas i believe. it costs about 50 bucks for a gallon to have it shipped, 'cuz it's 'haz-mat' but it's as simple as spray on, wait.......spray when dry, wipe off with lots of paper towels...VERY LITTLE TO NO SCRUBBINE 'cuz i'm lazy.just my .02
