Easiest way to remove Ford Rearview mirror

I hope this makes sense...

Take a long, thin, but strong tool such as a screwdriver, pick, or best of all, hook tool.

Insert it into the hole at the bottom of the mirror base at the arrow (it will be between the bracket and the mirror base):

While pulling the mirror upward to slide it off of the bracket, gently pry on the tool to pull the mirror base tab away from the mirror bracket.

If you rock the tool back and forth (away from the glass and toward it) gently while pulling up on the mirror itself, the mirror will slide upward off the bracket with no stress, fear, or sudden movement. :thumb

When re-installing, it helps a lot to spray a little silicone spray on the mirror base to help it slide onto the bracket and seat all the way when done.

I've been doing this for a long time and it works fine most of the time. I have a cheap little precision screwdriver I found that I use for this. Pops it off every time.

Where's the tip for the new 04 trucks? :thumb
Sorry, I don't remember what those are like, I've only done a couple of those and it's been a while :thumb

THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!!
charge 300$ for visor strips on these trucks
I've done plenty of 'em and did one today.

If your law is like ours...(6") then you don't need to remove it. Just precut on the outside and the visor is right at the top of the mirror mount. At worst you have to slightly notch the film for the top of the mount. There's plenty of room to slide the film behind the mirror if you need to.
but what if your law is 16"??... :lol6 :lol
what is the mirror like on those? I don't remember. I know I've put eyeberows on a couple.
I have cracked a front windsheild on an 04 Ford PU
Fords SUCK

MOst of the Ford's we do you can actually grab the mirror & slowly pull straight down & they pop right off. We never use a tool on a Ford. :uh
With this method, the mirror doesn't have to "pop" off at all. It gently slides up off of the bracket. :lol6
Most of the newer Fords are coming out with the new style mirrors and this technique of going from underneath simply won't work unless you're just lucky. The correct way that I personally saw at the Ford dealer is to go from up top. There's a slot at the top big enough to stick a large flathead screwdriver into (Or if you want to do it correctly you'll need the Ford tool) and you pry straight down. Maaann I'm telling you the sound is unbearable! You gotta' have balls of steel to do it (I don't), but it comes right off in 3 seconds.
Oh, and tintdude.com is not responsible for any tips and techniques mentioned therein!
I just did an 07 yesterday and chose to cut around it. I broke one a couple months back and didn't want a repeat.

The hook tool method from the bottom works great on the s-10, sonoma pickups too. I took photos when I did my truck but never got around to posting them.
Amazing how after ALL these years Ford still can't build a "better mousetrap " like all the other manufactures have done to have rear mirrors remove with the greatest of ease.
