Dot Matrix Solution!, Works like a charm!!! Options

I have been using a product for 3 years now and have never had a problem with peeling down from the dots. I use the Headlight Sealer solution on the dots. It dries clear and fills in all the dots for the film to stick. The sealer is from Liquid Resins, it's inexpensive and only takes a couple of minutes to set. It dries clear and is waterproof.
I'm sure any brand headlight sealer will work, but I've never used any other.

You apply it with a sponge paint brush - .25 cents each at hardware store. Or just a folded up Towel. It won't drip everywhere and is not slimy.

i dont know.....the kiddy's blue glue aways worked for me. but i gotta give u credit for thinking of another product to use. hey what about clear silcone? i was thinking about trying that but i wanted to get some insight on it first.

I've tried silicone but nothing really sticks to it. It repels water and was really messy and took hours to dry.

Yes! There is no smell or at least a non offensive smell. You just brush it on...let it dry (1 or 2 min.) and then tint over it. It dries clear and has stayed clear on my car 04' Mustang for just over 3 years.

isn't this the same thing as 3M Edge Sealer (p/n 3950)? more or less? Clear resin, about $13.50 an 8oz can Used to use the 3M stuff back in the early 90's for dots all the time. When Filmhandler was just a tool seller, they used to sell the heck out of that stuff.

Anybody remember that stuff " do-dot "? Had a brush in the lid? Smelled like contact cement?

do you let the top of the film hang and dry first, like with the blue glue? Could you explain a little more how you apply it. This seems like a great tip

Paint it on, let it dry, apply film - Done. 2 coats works better.

I usually wipe the dots with rubbing alcohol let dry. Then apply a small amount with foam brush covering the dots. Shrink your rear window as the heat will the solution dry faster then tint as usual. it dries waterproof and fills in the gaps of the dots. Sometimes you may need a second coat for thicker dots.

we've had good luck on these 08 civic coupes using nothing & doing nothing to prep the dots using qdp install film like normal then relifting the film only on the matrix re-wet and squeegee using only a yellow rubber wrapped in a towl. It gives you that released look everywhere like it lifted away from the dots (no complaints yet) but atleast its not sticking here & not there. We've never had good luck using glue on honda matrix dots.

It finishes Black as if there weren't any dots at all. I've know I'm going to get told some things after I say this but here it goes. I tested out Glue sticks, blue glue, clear glue, etc. against the headlight sealant using UV lamp and the sealant never cracked or flaked, all the others did. I believe the reason is that the glues don't have a UV inhibitor to stop the break down of the glue.
The glue may work well in some areas where the sun isn't as bad as in Florida, Texas and the southern states.
This is in no way saying that the glue method doesn't look good (from the outside) I'm just asking how long will it last?

Agree honda , bmw only problems . Glue solves the rest

I used it on quite a few cars and never had any back, I wanted it for just the small areas of matrix that border most windows, for very fussy customers.

It does work, but I found you needed 2 coats for the best effect.

I used it before I got ill. It works great and dries so there isn't a white silver looking appearance around the dots. Here is the link to order it.

It works OK, it can have a bit of a washed out look on the matrix, I think it looks better than a silver matrix though.

I used it yesterday - it worked like a champ!

I did a Vauxhall VXR8 - I think it's based on the Aussie Holden. I did'nt like the car.
Be careful heating the outside of the doors...smokin before you know it.

I used the resin on the back window - it has a similar setup to a 3 series BMW., I cut around the brake light as the brake light seemed to be screwed to the headlining - what a silly set-up.

I told the guy about pushing the damp matrix around the base of the brak light down in a few days

On this car it looked awesome - he is coming back in a few days as the windows on this car had some crazy %&$# on the window, i had to use a lot of soap so I want to drop the windows for him.

Glue works well on large areas of dot matrix with easy access but on most of the cars in the UK with a very narrow dot matrix, which is often combined with sliding the film behind interior trim, it is often impossible to lift the edge and apply glue.
This solution which can be applied first left to dry and then install the film as normal sounds good.

I went though a phase of using it a lot - it works but is the time it takes worth it? Can you charge for that time?
Not always!!

For a really fussy customer - if you can pre-empt them - it would be worth it.

prep dots with steelwool clean & tint like usual, squeegee all solution out from under film. Pull top down wipe dots with towell, spray rapid tac2 (comes in a spray bottle) let set for a minute & finish.

Seen this described many times but it is impossible to do this on the 1 cm strip around the edge of a back glass or where often the edge of the film may be slid in behind cloth trim.
It is in this sort of situation where an alternative such as treating the dots prior to film installation would be a big help.

Well i waited to here for some good results since i first seen the post. i still dont feel confident that it is the end all be all but i will order and give it a go. i just really want to know 2 things. 1-prep glass before you apply it? and 2- has anyone been using it on 1/4 glass dotsand were the results good??
