Well all, here is my video. Not a great quality, but it should show what I am doing. Heat and air under the film to hold it up and warm the underside. Then heat on the top to get the shrink. Check the time code and find that it is about 20 seconds per pocket and that makes for less than 2 minutes. Car is an 07 Nissan Altima. Not totally new but just a bit different. I have done 07ish Neon back glasses top and bottoms with the heat over and under. No pulling the top on them...

just one of those weird thoughts that worked out. James, shwusyrtnts, was blown away. It worked on the Global HP as well....and was only a few seconds slower on each pocket.

keeps film off of the glass and the film doesn't cool off.

I use to do it with one gun and blow under then work up and over. Let the pocket "close" off to hold the air, but this is even smoother than that and the heat is not on the paint long enough to matter. Look at the time. 20 seconds or less on each part.....and if you notice I lay my hand on the film immediately after the gun comes off. Not on it long enough to get it HOT....

Don't knock it until you try it...

I do that on some tops, but if I can pull the film up off the glass I just do it that way most of the time. I did do an 07ish Neon top with that method.....

And it worked for me on the Global HP. The only difference was I had to back off at the bottom as the film started to curl up. James pointed out that the Llumar is rolled the opposite and that was probably why Global did that.

I've used a double heat gun for many yrs now ..I posted a video here a few years back similar idea blowing heat under, then chase it down, hakes only a couple of minutes on most back windows .. the only difference is you blow the heat in at the same time as chasing it down with the guns separate , I have 2 guns permanently strapped together , blowing the heat under first with both guns , then chase it down . Like you say though, takes way too long with one gun , wit h2 and the right flow, takes no time at all . So in essence if I was doing the bottom fingers first , I shoot heat up into the fingers underneath as the guns move up to the center of the bg, then heat the outside as the guns drop down again..same thing exactly..you separate the guns, I keep them together thumb.gif.

I've said it MANY times..don't knock 2 guns at once till you try it . I've had people try it and no like it till they watch me use them and then really like it ..once you get used to it ..going back to one gun sucks ..ask any 2 gun user Flaugh.gif

Nice video thumb.gif

I'll adress this question..I always have a drop cloth drapped over the rear of all trunks :I just pin it on either side then shut the trunk, I did have cord marks the first time I used 2 guns, never again after taking the 10 seconds it taked to put a drop cloth over the trunk (good idea IMO anyways..that way you can set squeges and such on the trunk without worry + when you lean over , etc. That's me though..if it's not a problem , then no need to do it orngbiggrin.gif

It's a fact that whenever you show a video to share knowledge , more often then not you'll have to defend some parts of what members view (not singling wndotint out at all , but rather speaking from experience ,that's why I don't shoot video much anymore..if you do..be prepared to back up procedure ) That's why I pipe up to defend the 2 gun shrink whenever someone films it Flaugh.gif

but,

when your working on some hi end cars with some hi end customers, trust.gif , you don't wanna drag cords on the paint, it's a good practice to get into, I had a lady with a white shelby mustang say I put scratches in her trunk lid when I tinted it hmmmmmmm.gif I'm looking, and looking, and finally she gets her nose on the trunklid @ an angle and says do you see all these (towel swirls in the clear coat) she said it was from me wiping the trunklid off rollin.gif wasn't me, because I never wiped your car down.

Thanks for clarifying ! That's why I jumped to his defense when wndotint asked about cord marked on the car saying that IF it was an issue covering it was the solution ..if it's NOT an issue ..no worries.. A good observation either way..but trying to keep the focus on the tip rather than picking apart the secondary behind the scenes as many do thumb.gif

both guns on high, hold the under one back enough to not "melt" or even lay down the film edge (had it do that on Suntek HP 05) the air blowing is one of the main keys. It keeps the film off the window but the heat is a big plus as it warms the film itself to aid in the shrink.

I have my "extra soapy" little sprayer with a pretty high concentration of Film-on in it for those extra tacky windows. I found that I can mist it on the back glass, wipe LIGHTLY, then when it drys it reacts like a dryer sheet or even better without the extra soap film from Mdog's shrink style.

It is very much dry.....

Thanks for the "votes" guys. I should have posted this sooner.....I have been doing it this way for about 2 years....just had not put it out there.

That method looks awesome! I'm definitely gonna try it soon. I've been using the soap shrink for a while, and love it, but that method looks way easier and faster.

I have a question, though.

When you do the top part of the film, it looks like as you reach the top of the window you have to hold the film up and as you finish, it snaps down into place. How do you make sure you don't overshrink it across the top?

on the top, it is more of experience with doing it this way. When I get just about to the top of the glass or where I want to stop then I will let it go. It does not take much to make the film lay down on the top like that. The only car that is tough is the 2 door Stratus.....

This shrink will work with dryer sheets, the Mdog Soap, wet, and even powder......or probably any style.

Sorry for coming across as analytical, as some put it. But if I was doing something wrong I would hope someone here would point it out to me.

BTW, there is no such thing as over analyzing this art form. Most of us here are trying to stand out and above the competition. It's the little things that do that. Plus, what's the first part of analyze? Here's a hint: OCD.

So the stratus is harder than a New Beetle?

I do wana let you all know that lil'D also shrank the top with heat over and under as well on his cavy so this method works top and bottom. Also this is just one mans tech. I personally liked this way of shrinking but still havent got it down. I will say that when you get it right you have very little "puckers" or "distortion" to the film on the outside of the glass. Almost like it is more gentle on the shrink process. I wonder what would happen if LB used 2 torches? Flaugh.gif

Has anyone done this on a non-metal film yet? I bet its really easy on the thinner films.

can't say much about the Beetle..... I have not had to tint one in about 4 years. Lucky, yes.....

Beetle has to be shrunk all the way across the top and bottom. The Stratus is just really tight in the top corners.

Awesome tip - I use carbon and ATR so I will have a play.

How about placing some film scraps stuck to the car at the bottom of the screen to absorb a little of the heat - so the paint is not affected?

if you feel you need to put something on there....I guarantee that I don't get the paint hot enough to matter. The heat is simply not on there long enough....

Shwusyrtnts called me today and he got it down on his second try.....loves it.

The heat gun is not close enough to get the paint that hot. I can touch the paint when i'm done yet there have been hot summer days when I can't even touch the paint.

beer.gif got one more question on this technique..

you use the heat to basically blow air between the film and the glass

does it matter if that air is hot or cold?

can you use a gun that blows cool air instead? thumb.gif

yes air in general will help.....keep the film off the glass, but the main thing with The Ryk Shrink is the extra heat.
