TOTW: one man - big panes - no snap, how to do big panes with ps adhesive or vinyl Options

Few days ago I had to install vinyl on some pretty big windows. 147x241 cm or 58x95
It was a challenge because vinyl sticks to the liner very strong, and here is the way I did it:

start with ordinary reverse roll, and when you start to take the liner off, make it a bit bigger than when you want to snap it

like this:


put it on the glass and pushout excess water to make it stay on the glass


now you roll that liner from the start of the peeloff all the way to the film that remained rolled


now you can keep rolling the liner (which gives you enough force for peeling vinyl that wide) and
at the same time hold that rolled film above the action so you can keep the glass nice and wet
and it aloves you to get of the ladder (that was my problem)


after the film is on the glass proceed as usuall

It took 11 hrs to do it by myself and it was 46 sq meters
I don't know how much it is in sq feet but it is like one 60'' roll

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough of it, and it had to be done ASAP
plus we don't have so many choices here
and I like the looks of this vinyl much better then LL NRM PS2 which was my other option
and I think it is actually easier to do it with vinyl

I installed some LLUMAR UV protection film on house the other day by myself, its PS film. I hate installing PS film.

I wll give this technique a try the nexttime i hang some PS film

Thats how I do it or pay someone 100 bones to come along and pull liners, pick up trash and move ladders

Just don't tell them how much you made on the job lol

PS adhesive is sticky, if you are exclusively an automotive film installer, that is what you deal with every day. Some film companies use alternatives to PS for flat glass films. i.e. "dry" adhesive which is said to be water activated, or "detactified" pressure sensitive adhesive, which is basically a coating that makes the adhesive less sticky until it is flushed with water and has pressure applied to it on the glass.

Awesome, that's a nice look. I installed some vinyl for 7-11 convenience stores with a similar look at it was very easy to work with. I think vinyl is a good option when window film can't be used or isn't what the customer is looking for.
