so the other day i got extremely bored and decided to re-tint my parents cavalier. the tint on there was very ancient and had like a blue-ish purple haze to it. so i bag it. come to take it off, there is 2 layers of tint on that thing! it left adhesive all over the back glass so as i attempt to remove it, i see there is yet another layer of film, like a 70% but it looks more like 80% and this shiat is NOT coming off. i tried bagging it again, pick and peeling, using an ice scraper :s and NOTHING is working. i feel bad for my parents because now they cant really see out their back glass because its all adhesivey and its my fault because i thought the tint on there previously was god awful (which it was) and now i made matters worse. what else can i try?????

i doubt a steamer will get that last layer off. your best bet is to scrape away.

try this. sweat it off with the heat gun 1 small patch at a time. take a 1'x1' peice of liner, spray the window with your favorite sweat solution, put the liner on, heat that 1'x1' square until the solution is boiling hot, then try peeling. tip of the week for the newbies..

i agree with this as well..... also if you want a cheap steamer go to home depot and get a wagner, 30 bucks, comes with attachments that make it well worth it.

look at the tip of the week for the "putting scrap tint on a window" for removal. Basically tint it with scraps and then bag it. That thin layer will not come off with out just plain scraping it off otherwise....

I would NOT use a 6" scraper as it will not conform to the glass and you will scratch the glass. Just a 1" blade in a holder and a long reach holder for the bottom is wonderful....

all that is if the scraps don't work...

Be careful at Target. They'll only let you return something twice a year without a reciept. So make sure you keep it. beer.gif

Just had this happen to me on a '96 BMW 318. Bagged it all morning and tried my steamer but there was no way to prevent film from pulling apart and leaving that bottom layer on the glass. Of course that layer against the glass had all the bubbles in it so even with steamer you couldn't pull it off except in tiny little pieces. Plastic razor blade and steamer was only way to get it off. BUT, 1.5 hrs on less than 1/4 of the bg and I gave up. Took it to the glass shop up the street and put a new window in for $250! Custy was happy and I really had no desire to be in the back seat of that car all day!
