My buddy wants me to remove some film from his yacht cause he said its to dark. Whats the best way to go about doing this, assuming the adhesive will stick to the glass?

There just really big windows so if the adhesive stays on the window it's gonna be a pain to use 1" blades to remove it

bingo.gif but a couple smaller boats Ive done(small as in 45+) have some wrap arounds that I didnt want to use a 6" on for fear of scratching those big azzz windows, so I steamed what I could and use 1" blades. A good way to get paid by the hour, when money isn't an issue with the owners.

Im gonna assume the windows are flat. That said i would use a Triumph with soap and water mix. If you use anything stronger it could turn the adhesive to gorilla snot and make a mess. We do yachts all the time and never have issues with scratching provided the glass is flat. Good luck

buy a steamer at home depot (wagner) it has a large square attachment, start the peel with the steam and then apply steam while pulling slow. use a 6" triumph blade for residual glue.

Yes the windows are flat. Would ammonia and trash bags work well?

But are they tempered or annealed?

If they are annealed, then try the bags, if tempered try the steamer. thumb.gif

Tempered glass will always have a temper mark faintly etched in one of the corners.

Problem is evenly distributing the heat. I know tinters who have used a steamer on w/shields, but I wouldn`t do it. The time it saved wouldn`t be worth the chance of some glass breakage to me.

I think i'm just gonna use ammonia and trash bag cause I don't own a steamer. Does this still work if it's not hot out?

How thick are the windows? I am sure they are probably thicker than 1/8". But if not, be careful about putting alot of pressure when scraping with the 4 inch or bigger scraper. I have cracked a home window doing that. If you don't feel comfortable, then using 1" blades will work. It will take a whole lot more time though
