i went to this shop near my house and asked if they needed any help for the summer. ive been tinting for about a year but still could use some improvement. will shops be willing to let someone come in and help for free to get expeirience? or will it be a hassel? any advice? hmmmmmmm.gif

dunno.gif I'm not quite sure how you expect to really learn WITHOUT starting at the bottom and learning the basics. hmmmmmmm.gif Of course a busy shop would hire someone willing to learn, you think they all hire experts only? grinning_and_saying_no.gif

With 1 year experience, you shouldnt have to work for free! You should get paid at least apprentice wages. You shouldnt be a hassel to shops.

if your exp is in a shop you should get some money , but if a diy no money and start out cleaning and move up from there

Don't feel too despondent Cantint.
The reason is probably more likely to be due to the frustration of how long it takes to learn this art form from a shop owners' perspective.

It takes forever man.

Depends on the shop. I'd be willing to consider paying someone as a trainee who is a hard worker and has a knack. Once they can tint on their own, they can earn commission. When it's really busy, the tinters won't want to be teaching...but during slower periods most wouldn't mind teaching an eager beginner.

imo most noobs get bored and arent in it for the long term - make sure you still wanna be tinting in ten years or more

also forgot funny question posed to me the other day (i thought it was funny anyway) custy says so how long did it take you to learn this? - i says i learn something new everyday

ok last comment on this - dont expect to make a lot of money right away - if i were only in this for the money i wouldnt be doing it - i like tinting i feel its in my blood - plenty (and i mean plenty) of other professions that make a whole lot more money than tinting - & i think most other tinters would agree they like what they do and pride themselves at it -

We would gladly take on some one willing to work hard and learn. But in this town trying to find some one that bathes regularly know what a barber is and isn't on the ice seems to be alot to ask for poking_someone_in_the_eye.gif .

It has been mentioned before on this website about training your future competition, that might be a barrier.

window tinting is an absolute art form, I have one guy out of 10 that we have hired that is actually awesome at it and continues to improve...

however, we had this one 16 year old piece of work that we trained for 6 months, paid hourly and comission. He was doing well for 16, then all of a sudden our tint customers just disappeared and this kid couldn't work as much, he called off all the time...well come to find out, he had custys calling his phone for tinting at his house, he told people that he still worked for us, was insured and everything to work on their cars, but we asked him to do it out of his garage...

trust in an employee is very hard in this industry...

oh yeah, 70% of the tint jobs he did, he did with autozone tint and custys came back to us with warranty complaints...I have had to explain that story dozens of times to "his" custys and then I gladly give them his phone number. rollin.gif

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
