Full Version: breaky brittle parts
I was tinting a Lexus gs 400 (I think) a few months ago. First off he wanted the fade off tint. I tried to talk him out of it but he had to have it. Anyway after going through he explanation of no warranty with this film, I could tell that he was going to be picky with his "baby". I proceeded to pull the rear deck and the rear brake light cover broke, I was a nervous wreck, I priced a new one at the dealer and it was outrageous for that cover. Any way I have a good friend in the body shop bus that I do alot of work for tell me he can fix it to where the customer cant tell it. He did he glued it together with some panel adhesive and fiberglass tape on the back, then put some kind of filler on the front sanded and painted it to match. Customer doesn't notice it. He did come back in and ask if I unplugged anything because his cd changer doesnt come on now. I told him no, why would his changer not work now it is suspended from the bottom of the trunk and no water can get to it without drowning the entire trunk. I haven't heard back from him and he has sent me some more customers so I guess he is happy.
I've had that happen before, Its only on the old body Lexus GS, the brake light is like 15 inches accross, and the cover is as brittle as a potato chip, I just glued it back together and whent the tint is on the glass you cant see the fracture marks. To buy a new one was 400. You dont have to worry about the new body GS, the light pops right out.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
