Full Version: Beware of bees!

Braud Spectrum
I was fixing to clean the back glass on the car I tinted this afternoon and jumped in with all my paraphernalia and noticed several insects way back up against the glass on the carpet. Nothing new... dunno.gif on some of the cars I've worked on there have been dozens of critters up against the glass. But this time when I swiped across the carpet with my conquerer to sweep them out of the way one was alive! A bee! Fbigeyes.gif It flew at my face and I felt it whap me above my upper lip but thank Goodness he didn't sting me. evileye.gif First time one has even been living. Flaugh.gif

Lucky it did not sting you. I got stung on the lip once and looked like a circus freak, top lip looked like a tire inner tube! inot.gif

thumb.gif I sure was. Supposedly, (according to Mom) I have an allergy to bee stings. It's been years since I got stung tho. Both my grandaddys were bee keepers so when we'd run around as kids with no shoes on invariably I'd get stung on the foot. I remember my foot getting huge. Some people have trouble breathing when they get stung but I don't think that ever happened to me.

Flaugh.gif They sure can wreck a good time. Sunday before the company arrived I was trimming my palm tree fronds(the hangy down ones that are dead) to make the bottom of the tree kinda look like a hut. It grows right up thru the pool deck so enen tho they're up high I can reach them. I'd done it before but wanted to give it another haircut so I'm snipping away at it trying to make the "fringe" even and two hornets attacked me. mad3.gif I had the broom handy and was able to thwart ones dive at me and he ended up in the pool stunned. I took my sizzors and cut him in half when he floated close enough to me. coffee.gif The other was furious and kept flying at me but never did get me nor did I get him. The nest I found between two fronds and squashed it. I wanted to K1ll both because under the tree is where the baby plays while we swim. She can't crawl yet so it has been being a good safe place for her... evileye.gif until I discovered the hornets.

Hornets are bastards plain and simple. Goofy looking paper huts in the trees, and I can't forget underground yellow jackets. I blow them up with half sticks of boom boom stuff. thumb.gif inot.gif trust.gif

Up here in Oregon yellowjackets are everywhere in the summer. Eat your Subway sandwich inside or you'll probably get harrassed and stung by these little terrors. Lots of those paper wasps, too. I sprayed at least three nests in my backyard with Raid a few weeks ago. One of the kids got stung by them so I had to resort to chemical warfare. evileye.gif

By the sound of it, thank goodness we don't have hornets downunder.

I did a home 12 months ago that had a hive located in the wall right beside the glass I was tinting.
You should have seen the bastards making a flight line from far off to the wall?
You could smell the honey Fbigeyes.gif and luckily no problems.

About the yello jackets....I found a really great way to get rid of them without hunitng the nest. I read this on a web site. They make a salmon pase just for this . Mix a small amount of incapsulated insect killer in the paste and put it up somewhere safe, you know away from animals, the yellow jackes will take it back to the nest and feed it to the othes bees . Once they eat it the encapsulation breaks doun in their digestive system, and they all die!!!!! Cool huh? Its only suppose to take a few days once they find the paste. They said to use the salmon in the summer and they have a fruit based paste to use in the fall. I think it was BUGSPRAY.net

I'm very allergic to bees. I have to keep a shot of epinephrin real close just in case I get stung. I have about 40 minutes to live without the shot evileye.gif

An easier way to get bees is using sugar and soap water.Get an old coffee can and put one cup dish soap and one half cup sugar then fill a little over half with water.Put the can where you see most of the bees, they love this stuff, when they try to eat it they get stuck and drown.

Had a client once call me the day after installing Bronze/Silver to her mobile home, perched in the middle of a cow pasture (or so it seemed), said her house was surrounded by millions of bees. Fbigeyes.gif hmmmmmmm.gif Asked what it was about the film that attracted them. dunno.gif

I told her it was something from the Twilight Zone... Flaugh.gif

Just recommended she make a dash ohcrap.gif for her car and go pick up 2 or 3 gallons of bleach to pore in a ring around the house... Smoker.gif relax and let it do its thing to the bees. eyebrows.gif

Bees don't like bleach... grinning_and_saying_no.gif they'll run and hide.gif once they smell it! spank.gif Flaugh.gif

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
