how do you guys handle it when customers schedule an flat glass install and then they dont answer the door at the time of appointment. I could tell they were expecting me because i could see some of the furniture partially moved out of the way. the customer told me they will have someone answer the door when i get there but no one did. I'm pretty pissed right now becus i always unload equipment before i ring the door bell. i needed a ladder to so that came off the car. what a wste of time!
How would you people handle this when they call back. i also left a note on the door telling them i was there and to call and reschedul.

Life happens while we're busy making plans.
Nothing goes my way anymore, I just go with the flow. I guess one settles with age.
Leave a nice "Sorry to have missed you, please call" note, load everything back into the vehicle, kick the shoes off and walk the beach. You had the time and from what you posted, the weather to do it in.

That's what down payments are for. I'd take a chunk out of that and write it up as a trip charge. Sometimes I let 'em talk me out of it.

I alway bang on the door then grab the cell and give them a ring if that doesn't work I wait about 10-15 min. then get pissed and leave, wait for their call and be nice and reschedule and have them wait at least a week so their elec. bill makes them wish they would have been there

That doesn't happen to me too much, probably 10 times the past 18 years.
What really pisses me off is when they call while you are in route and they cancel. Last time was a few weeks ago. My crew was on the way and this woman calls to cancel. I ask her why. She says she found someone cheaper. This was a $1200 job. Didn't sit too well with any of us. Luckily this has only happened twice the past few years and it was a film we use almost every day.

I call the day or two before to REMIND them we'll be there. It wastes a lot less time than driving to the job and finding out there not there and being ticked off about it all day.
As far as deposits go it depends on the size of the job and my instincts regarding any particular customer most of the time we go do the job get paid and everyones happy.

I think even worse than showing up and getting no love, is when you schedule an appointment to demo or measure and they don't answer the door. I have already had one customer bail on the estimate trip and one make me wait on the store room floor while he pretended to ignore me. I knew after I measured, he was not going to buy, but I still stuck around and endured his neglectful abuse. I would have to say that if a customer bailed on me after I got to the job site, I would probably just suck it up and thank them for the opportunity to sell film that evening, instead of installing film. Then I would offer them a 5% discount so they (in good faith) referred me to a friend. Let’s be honest: They know that they are wrong and know that they kind of screwed you, but since you are the better person and even discounted the tint, (I hope) that they may refer you to a friend. If they don't recognize that they screwed you and understand what an unconvinced it was to waste your time, they would not refer you even if you did a good job. I figure that a 5% discount may get me some more business that would more than make up for my lost time. I'll let you know if that works out when it happens ........

I would be polite and reschedule and when you come back to do the job do an upperdeck in their toilet for a payback.

I did, along time ago, for another tintshop.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
