Full Version: Plexiglass..tint removal
got job to remove tint on airplane windows after someone (not me ) ruined them..what is safeest way (if any ) to remove film.
i suppose ive been lucky in tha fact that any plexi removal ive done hasnt been too bad. I've been able to peel the film layer and scrub off the excess adhesive with one of those sponges with the white netting around it, cant think of the name of it.....
i also use a product called De-Solve-It to loosen the adhesive, works great. i get it at one of my many local Wally Worlds..
hope that helps, tree
Try baggin them

QUOTE (blade @ Nov 16 2004, 06:19 PM) Tell your customer he's barkin' up the wrong Tree [*]221136[/*] I had a guy wanting me to tint some windows on his helicopter Turned out to be plexi and I asked him how much the windows would be to replace them He told me the plexi was not that much, but the total bill would be about a grand a piece (he had to replace one before) So I suggested that he use the kling stuff
just stand clear but if you must do the job get some plastic razors sweat the windows real good or maybee a steamer
yes I'd say steamer, and you can rent one if you don't have one!
i've never heard of removing old tint on plexiglass........
doesnt sound right, if you clean it off with a spongue or whatever, doesnt it leave scuff marks? maybe someone here knows I'm not sure myself but don't you have to have some kind of FAA certification to work on aircraft
not really, one time we did a couple AA planes with 50% NR long time ago!!!
easiest money ever.
Never had to do this! Sounds like thats a blessing!!

TRUST ME!!
by the way, the heat from the steam will cause the plexi to flex, which will not allow you to scrape on an EVEN angle.....
heat+plastic (plexi) = warping...... and you dont want to scrape on the plexi anyway, even if the blades are the crappy plastic ones, you'll scratch the plexi......
that would be the day when i remove tint on plexiglass.
I think i deserve another TOTW medal for this one... i worked for it!!!

Allwrinkled... looked like
Hey FX? Are you talking about a DOBIE scrubber? Thaught I could jar your memory
Removal on plastic glass works without scratches if there is a scratch resistant surface. There is a 99% chance that the glass used for any plane does have that. It is always a good idea though to demand a small testing area whenever you are in doubt. Or even when not, shows you are professional shows you care.

PS adhesive will take it (SR coating) off reflective coated glass and window film... stands-to-reason lifting the SR is possible with acrylic and polycarbonate.
