Full Version: Chevy cobalt
I did a 4 door cobalt today. This car is a cake walk. the only thing that got on my nerves was the head rests. They don't move or come out
That car is great to tint, and the headrests do come out, remover the little panel under the headrest and then remove two small bolts (14mm) piece of cake
How much different is it really from the cavalier
I did a TWO DOOR COBALT today side where easy but rear window SUCKED!!!
It reminded me of a camaro rear window (just smaller) it had dot matrix on top (8") and it looked real hard to do. I figured that it wouldnt be so bad to put on with the hatch open but to my surprise its not a hatch and the head rest have to be unbolted to be removed. I was bumed out. After getting all worked up it turned out to not be so bad but its still sucked being all cramed up in the back of that little car I hope these dont sell!
I have my 1st 2 door tomorrow...one of the advantages of being a chick
Thanks for the post
I havn't had th chance to do either the 2 or 4 dr yet...in your opinions ...is the old cavalier easier or harder than the Cobalt
Harder... the Cobalt is very easy
I do more Sunfire's and Cavaliers than any other vehicles combined...so this is good news if the Cobalt takes off...I'll look forward to doing one
The cobalt is a joint venture from Chevy & Saab. The glass is better quality than the older Chevys. And the install is much simpler. We will see a LOT more of the Saab Chevys soon. Which is cool with me.

i had a 2 door today i i thought the backglass was harder than a muther fuccker

haven't seen the 2 door yet...........
I will remember your pain, when I quote the price that sux, the 4 door is cake. Z
Did my first 2-door today. I didn't have an issue with the BG. Probably 'cause I read this post first (thanks to all at TD). If I feel it's going to be a pain to shrink, I will spend a little more time prepping it, choosing a better anchor point and such.
I did see the resemblence to the older Camaro window right away, with the high curves near the vertical edges. I also used 6 ml of glue on the enormous dot area, as opposed to the average 4 ml (as measured in the oral syringe). The quarter windows kinda remind me of the new Rustang. First pic... back glass after rinsing off the Sizing, before installation. Second pic... after installation or vice-versa (I should learn to download my pics backwards)
nice job exact-oh!
Way to shrink that BG
the 4dr model is a candy azz tintjob
thanks all... like I said though, thanks to all who take the time to post here. If it weren't for reading this thread first, I probably would have fought with that shrink the first time. But, knowing it was challanging, just those few extra minutes on set-up made a big difference.
MDOG, I just had a conversation last week with Ninja about shrinking. I haven't tried your soap method yet (which he was considering trying), 'cause after trying the Sizing method a few times, I bought a case of the stuff. I only go through about one can every two months (if that), it last forever. Maybe that was the difference in this two-door. just did my 1st 4 door today. yep...total cake job. for those not scared to pull a panel there's a screw behind the door handle and 2 screws in the arm rest, then the panel pops right off. easy panels to deal with.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this site, so I figured I'd comment on the new Cobalts. I have only done ONE 2 door, and completed the back window in one piece. Not the easiest to shrink, but i got her. Being that I'm 6'5, needless to say it was a b!tch getting the piece in the car. But overall, the car wasn't too bad, and it came out looking great!

well, if you replace the "4's" with "A's", then it would say "DeathMetalKing00". Death Metal is my favorite kind of music, and my last name is King, and I just added the 00 for flare lol.

for those of you who had a hard time i think i found the trick when doing your h lock make sure the top of the H or hard card is even with the top of the defrost blocks, and make the film almost all the way out to the edge of the glass and do the rest of your lock down, after that shrink the bottom normally and for the top shrink up about 5 to 6 inches just starnard no stretching and after that stretch only the sides not the middle then after that shrink the rest of the window like normal and lay it in
please let me know what you think of this i would like to hear the results.

2 door easy sides but tight space for the back window!! I had to have to have the heat gun with me inside
to lay down some stubborn little fingers and came out
Are we really talking about the same 2 door cobalt here guys. because the ones I am getting are pretty cake.
Headrests gotta go though. pop off cover plate, 2-13mm (I think? maybe 14mm) bolts and out she comes. yep .... bunch of sally tinters round here. whoever said its like a camaro ... have you tinted a camaro? this is nothing compared to one. camaros can be wet shrunk, cobalts cant. easy car, even with the matrix, just a little time to heat up and squeegy out the access water. i think alot of "tinters" on the board need waaay more practice. then again, ive done 2 bugs, both in 1 peice, the second one took 15 minutes to shrink and install .... maybe im just too good ... figures. cocky, no, just confident. practice practice practice boys and girls!
