I recently dropped my REMCON transmitter (learning unit - ltr-1), on a concrete floor. When trying to engage the alarm on the car (turn it on), it failed to secure the car.
I attempted to get the transmitter working , by using a phillips screw driver, and slowly turning the screw inside, left and right... without any drastic changes.. but nothing happened..
I took the transmitter back to the people who copied the original transmitter, and they attempted to get it working. The guy reported that the transmitter had dropped its code, and was not recoverable,
unless I had the original (alarm transmitter) .
The option suggested by the guy, was remove the whole alarm unit in the car, and replace
with a new unit.. ($600). He also tried to persuade me to disconnect the already installed alarm unit from the car. I told him, not to disconnect, and leave the alarm unit as installed..
The transmitter, armed/disarmed the car alarm, and locked/unlocked the central locking.
I took the car home, and was thinking of what to do.. When I got home, I thought I give it another go, and see if the transmitter worked.. WOW.. it worked first time.. Then I thought,, the guy, must have fixed it.. however he was trying to get me to pay $600, for a new unit..
anyway..
Now the transmitter will not communicate with the alarm at all..
I have 2 questions..
Should the transmitter, had dropped its code.. is there anyway, of seeing what code is being accepted by the alarm unit, in order to record a new one.. Surely there must be a device, that can get these codes..
Why can't the existing alarm unit, be re-programmed on a new code? Had my transmitter been stuffed, or even lost.. is my only option to get a new alarm unit installed..? Surely, it can be
re-programmed..?
Any help in diagnosing the above, would be helpful.. I will also get details on the alarm unit - to see if the unit can be re-programmed etc.
Thanks
