ok im trying to tint the back glass. i have tried everything. wet/dry shrinking with soap/babypowder..etc. i can not keep it from creasing. can someone tell me what to do? the last time i tried i soaped the backglass and waited for it to dry. then i cut hte film and locked the sides down. then i dry shrunk it. wetted it down and worked most of the ingers out but some places still had huge fingers and then it cresed or got to hot. any help please?
how long have you been tinting windows?
QUOTE (TINT @ Mar 6 2005, 12:33 PM) how long have you been tinting windows? [*]264526[/*] about a year. off and on.
hmmm well keep trying, practice practice practice.
its not ahard car to do when you know what your doing.
but all the cars i have tinted has been pickups and stuff with flat glass. i bet i have wasted 50 foot of film trying this car.
mabe someone tell me how to do it because i have run out of ideas and tint. i would pay someone to tell me thats how bad its getting.

[*]264530[/*] So if I'm reading this right...this is your first CURVED back glass...It will be very difficult to explain it to the point where your first car will come out with ANY creases All you can do outside of seeing it done is practice. It's a "feel thing" . A tip that might help...whe nshrinking your film wether it be powder method or soap once it's dried...when shrinking...smooth out the shrunk areas with a white scrubbie pad...it acts like a VERY soft smoothie which will smooth out the area that you shrunk...but without creasing it if you havn't shrink it enough in that area ...think of it as a "training " smoothy. [*]264530[/*] You have to waste 50 unbelievable foot before you realise that you can invisibly seam it in what...2 mins and be done with it and pocket the savings???????????? This is the trouble these days.....learn the old ways and use these in conjunction with the new that you are screwing up. Devil
You mean the knife goes on the INSIDE?

the way i was doing it was laying the tint down rough cutting it. locking the sides with some solution. starting with the right hand side i shrink from the center down moving the heat gun toward me.then before i get to the very bottom i go to the left side do the same thing then back to the right side finishing the bottom then back to the left side finishing that bottom then i start the left side working my way up then to the right side doing the same. and by the time im done there is a spot where i got the gun to close i guess or it has creased when i go to wet shrink it.
i would also seam it but i would have to cut the defrost line to do it. because it hase the lines that go vertically and some horizontal
just take it to a pro.you wont learn by reading instructions on here.
dude, you're going to waste ALOT more than 50 ft of film.

well you still havent tried the WET FECES SHRINK, give that a try.
also try using you shoe as a squeege, you will have less of a chance in creasing that paper QUOTE (Mdog @ Mar 6 2005, 06:36 PM) well you still havent tried the WET FECES SHRINK, give that a try. also try using you shoe as a squeege, you will have less of a chance in creasing that paper [*]264647[/*]
maybe this will help
try shrinking the hardest parts 1st usally the bottom outside, if your using soap or dryer sheets the bigest fingers are usally where the bigest curve is probably on the bottom towards the outside . then as your heating move from the top of the finger down and push some new fingers to the inside.
Most beginning tinters will probably trash a few thousand feet in film before they even begin to realize what needs to happen with any type of shrinking method....some not as much, some much much more.
No one can really tell you what to do. You have to practice and get the basics down literally on your own. When you learn the basics and can handle an easy back glass shrink, only then will any of our advice help you. Otherwise, it's all Greek to you.
good luck!
thanks for the advice. well im going to try heating the biggest fingers first then work with the rest of them. i guess concord will be getting alot more money from me lol.
try to shrink form teh outside corners inward. that may help.
and it will take time to get good with anything.
another ? i had was is it possible to be able to sorta rub the film down as i dry shrink it? mabe to make it more flatter to the glass. because when i have been dry shrinking it it would have fingers going horizontal. i was told dont touch it but i thought mabe if i try to make it flat to the glass it would help.
You will waste a lot more film than that if you are just starting out on curved glass. I have been doing this for over 15 years and just yesterday I wasted four feet of film while shrinking. It is an aquired feel, that takes many cars to master. All I can say is good luck... and if you are willing to pay to get this window done, why don't you take it to someone with more experience?

[*]265164[/*] I primarily dry shape these days. I found that when I started to learn the technique it made it easier for me to have the middle line really wet. I would use a scrub pad and soak it pretty good. Then when I would push down on it as I was heatshrinking it would push the water down with it making the film stick to the glass better. As you get better at this you will learn what the tint is suppose to look like as you heat it and will need less water. Good luck with your learning.
OMG, 4th easiest car ever!!!!!!
It goes: 1.) late model Celica 2.) 1st Gen Olds Aurora 3.) WRX 4.) XG350 I just did one today. I <3 XG350s
