How the hell do you get the brake light outta these things Even if I cut it out, theres still two rubber nubs in the way. I tried sliding the tint by those nubs and damaged it in the process I could always cut it a little higher above the nubs, but that would leave a light gap visible from the drivers seat... unacceptable. I have already broken all 4 plastic screws that come thru the top of the trunk (whatever, replaceable) . Ive tried prying it every way possible with no luck . This was such an easy car to tint too- god damn ford design team can suck my nuts- why make a rear brake light so hard to take out??? what if the light burnt out? I dunno, but im going to lose it soon- damn cars due first thing in the am. Any help?- It would be appreciated.

I haven't done one yet, but if they are like the old Taurus, the seat has to come out to remove the deck. Just guessing, but something to consider.

This may not help, but I did one about 4 months ago. I did not cut out the tail light, however I don't recall hoe the light came out. Have you popped the trunk, and looked up there? If not , I am sure Old T is correct.

I dont know hoe the light comes out either. there is 4 white plastic screws that come thru the top of the trunk... you would think that if you removed them the light would just pop out... nope... must just be a decoy. I just said fuk it and cut off the rubber nubs protecting the rear glass. done. thanks anyhoo

i did one yesterday and for whatever reason ford has mated that plastic housing for the 3rd brakelight to the rear deck it looks like it would come off but i couldnt get it for nothing. i folded down the top of the backseats and popped 3 plastic clips ( one in th emiddle and one on each side behind a side seat bolster) and grabbed the deck and pulled it back just enough to get behind it the whole car was easy except fot all that bullshivet. the next time i guarantee i will cut around that damn light, no problem fvck it. typical ford.

That &*(%$ Ford pissez me off so much..it's true..this car is easy and straight forward...till som asshat had to come up with the way TG shows for putting in a brakelight instead of something simple like depressing a plastic clip or hacing 2 exterior screws.(how hard is THAT to figure out guys) The car tricks you ...you think"finially they did something right" ...till you try and remove what APPEARS to be a simple breaklight . For the Ford Five Hundred Back window dont bother trying to take out the third brake light you have to take a part damn near the whole back seat and C-pillar and everything apart to do it. I looked it up in a repair manual. Im still new to tinting but trust me ITS NOT WORTH TAKING EVERYTHING APART. I did one today and was able to slide the film behind the third brake light no problem until i realized i diddnt have the tools to squeeze out the water behind it. my recomendation for this car is 1 of 3 options 1.slide it behind the light 2.cut the rubber bumpers between the light and glass 3. cut around the light.i did this on my first 500 that i did and it looked fine. both times ive tinted these cars ive done it in two pieces cause they are a difficult one piece for me being new and all. if you pop the little rubber bumpers out of the brakelight, then you can tint behind the light easier than a honda civic. Just use your bulldozer tools.

Hi all. Just stumbled across this site and this thread...just wanted to add my 2 cents. I've only done a couple of 500's, and didnt have a problem with them...BUT.... Here is what my tech site said about them ....
that there is a wire from the brake lite to the computer that can be disrupted, disturbed or broken. If in fact it is broken, there is a real possibility of fire.
Hope this helps!

The last 4 or 5 of those cars i have dont i just started cutting around the brakelight. I just trum the little rubber nubbs off and cut it tight so there is no light gaps visible from the inside. My time is more important to me than having to tear some persons car apart to tint 4 inches of back glass that they probably wont even complain about anyways

i saw the warning about the 500's catching fire in the IWFA magazine so WATCHOUT KIDS!!! seriously though just cutout around the third brakelight, not worth the trouble or the risk. im right by a ford dealer and have done numerous 500's straight off the lot and just cutout the light. do it clean and people dont even know that it could have gone any other way

Everyone here has read about the FIRE or heard about it, but can anybody give me a lead on some facts like who, when or where? I could really use some info on someone who has delt with it personally.

I did one today but I did pull the rear deck. Cost me some extra time but charged the customer accordingly. As far as the rear deck fire, I have heard of it but if you ask me the problem is Ford's. If you cant remove the rear deck on the car without it catching on fire then in my opinion they should go back to the drawing board. If it is true then that just tells you what a real POS the car really is.

this is about the stupidest design, did an '08 Taurus today, pulled the deck and yes, it sucked, took about 45 minutes, couldn't get the C pillars off, pushed the deck down on the sides to release it from the C pillars (getting it back in sucked as well), don't know what I'll do with the next one...... As far as these cars burning down after the deck is removed, I think that's BS, I heard the guy cut the wire when trying to pull it out of the light assembly (which makes no sense cuz you can twist it out), but there is no way what I did today would affect the cars computer and make it burn to the ground. I know one thing, I might make a copy of some of this thread to show people "Sorry, if I remove your rear deck it might catch on fire, see." And I'm sure the customer will say "Screw that, just cut around it!" That's what I'm thinking.

Trim the rubber nubbs off and squeegee away like a mug. thats how its always done. usually any car i read about on here as being a pain, all you need is a bulldozer and your fine. same with the lincoln LS's, so many people say their a pain this and that, but with a bulldozer, theres no issues at all.

First one I did, dropped my corner card inbetween the 3rd. brake light, cust was happy with cut-out of light. So needless to say I had to take out back deck and seats, re-tint w/o cutting brake light out. Much nicer install.

I have gotten pretty good sliding the tint behind the brake light and hammering it down with my bulldozer bulldozers are awesome for jobs like this you have to trim the little rubber t**s off the brake light housing first though. I look back at my previous post and laugh that i was having a "hard time" and actually cut around the light what a dumbazz i was. bulldozers kick arse
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
