That's like asking how long is a piece of string.
Without busting my crackers, I'd say a comfortable 250 per day would be nice and pleasant without whipping the poor bastard. spank.gif

Doing 500 a day can be done, but I would not recommend it, Burn out

For residential limit to 250 square when you can.

Flat glass DMC Flaugh.gif 250 isn't squat. My rookie installer with 1.5 yrs. experience can do that EASILY. And don't question the install quality. bat.gif Flaugh.gif There are too many variables...wood, vinyl, aluminum....large windows, small windows.....ladder work, scaffolding....skylights... blahh.gif It's all relative to the job. You have 20 6ft. vinyl sliders lined up in a row. thumb.gif Seperate those into different rooms or areas of a building...add some ladder work and wooden frames and krazy.gif

I have done 300-325 sq/ft in a day.. being like 10am-5pm. It sucked, I was by myself, and I was cussing my boss out the whole time. I don't remember what time of windows they were since it was a couple years ago, but probably something like anderson or something.

While I got it done, and didn't have any problems with the job, I was beat when done. For the $$ I was making per hour, it was really, really not worth it. On the way home I unloaded greatly on my boss about being sent alone.... And no, I'm not a wimp, I just didn't make enough per hour to do a big job like that.

Should be about 100 sq ft per hour.
If you pay your guy hourly, maybe half that.
If he's on piece work and back charged for redo's, you'll get 100 clean sq ft per hour! bat.gif
I average 100 sq ft per hour myself, and my installer( been with me 4 years now) averages the same.
And only top quality at that!

You can't tell me that 100 sq per hour is un-realistic.
I'm not talking about small colonial panes, but average sized residential or commercial units.
And I'm not talking about working a straight 8 hour day with no break, but after six hours, should have 600 sq ft on the glass.
Okay, work 5 hours per day, but have 500 sq ft on the glass.

Blade, if you've been around long enough to know better, give us your sq ft rate per hour??

5 hours per day, have 500 sq ft on the glass

so... you'll do 50 - 24" x 60" in 5 hours?

As I suggested right from the outset, it really depends on a massive amount of variables.
What I'm personally very comfortable with is 250 sq.ft. but I don't have to bust my arse for another day is just around the corner.
Besides, anymore than that then I'd be be drier than a dead dingo's donga at the finish..... Flaugh.gif MM! beer.gif

ive done 400 sq ft in one day on residential but someone was cutting out all my film. there is to many variables like devil and a few others said. there is miniblinds, ladder work, drapes, moving furniture, setting up drop cloths, putting all those window treatments back up when done, moving furniture back. this is a bullshit question. There is no average time because every situation is different. 250-300 is an honest days work with considering all the variables. if there is no window treatments, no ladder work, just walk up to the window tint and move on i could do 1000 sq a day if they are large windows linned up in a row.
VO|TRON
and cutting film, loading up the truck doing paperwork and filling out the warranties forms and bullshitting with the homeowner. there is too many things that go on do say an average and how long it should take. every job is different. and the dood that said if he hears, "i dont get paid euff to do this sh|t" he will fire someone. you sound like someone that no one wants to work for cause u dont pay sqwat. I contract and if i got to put up with guys not going out to bids and just bidding them over the phone and sending me out there to a fuked up situation and i got to deal with the customer b|tching about this and that and having to call the dealer and work out all kinds of shat with the home owner and then do all thier paper work for them and they only want to pay .50 a sq then thats not really worth it and no i dont get paid enuff to put up with all that, dont tell me you would work for that. put yerself in the oinstallers shoes and dont just look at it from an owners point of view.

That's a good call...

Depends upon size and at some point size can work against you. For instance, a job I remember doing once was 16 panels 45 inch by 92 inch sliders (=460 sq ft). It took me 6 hours. If the window bottom started at 4 feet from the floor it would take me longer because of the ladder. If they were 92 wide instead of high, it would take me longer than six hours.

Another job I remember was for 21 story, 84 condo unit high-rise... 35,000 sq ft. The contractor wanted to know time frame... I gave him an answer of 10 weeks and began wondering where the hellll I would get help to do it.

Too many variables, but a rough estimate is always helpful.
LukeNukem
I'm a new guy granted, but I'm shooting for 200-250 a day. I can sell at $5-6 a foot so 250 ft a day is fine by me. I'm a one man band and still like time to play with my kids you know. I suppose I could do more sq ft for less but why?, for me it's all about a balance between income and free time. I am not happy with too much anxiety and being a slave with no time to spend with the ones I love is anxiety.

Okay.
They are all the same size, cookie cutter basically.
But all I've done for the past 12 years is flat glass, so the answer is yes.

And yeah, this shiat deffinitely gets folks hot under the collar. orngbiggrin.gif beer.gif

BUT i swear if i ever hear "i don't get paid enough to do that" again whoever says that will be fired on the spot with no questions asked

Seeing as how I made that comment... The reason why I was pissed at having to do that job by myself was because at the shop I used to work at we generally always had two person crews.. unless the job was small or something. The boss priced this job very low, so the $$ figure was what I normally would do, but the sq/ft was a lot more then what one person was normally sent out, by themselves, to install.

They would look at the $$$ figure when sending guys out for the jobs - not by the sq/ft, and it would often screw one of us over and that day was my turn, and it just pushed my buttons the wrong way.

Now that I'm out on my own, I don't really care, or have much of an option, how big the job is.

i have a hard time figuring how many sq ft per day..i usually go by how many panes of glass...like saturday....we have 34 panes of glass..one sky light on big pelidum..and a bunch of dbl hung....should take 8 hours......about 5 indows per hour once the film is cut ..one guy cuts and the other cleans....once the film is cut one cleans and the other installs.....i find it is more about the number of panes and how much is on ladders than sq ft....
