Graphics without a plotter

Custom Search

zolar
I have a trick to share for those custom tint graphics, for those of us that are, too poor, or too picky, for a plotter.

1) Take your image into your image editing software, and blow it up to the actual size you need,
2) Export (slice) the image into 8 1/2 x 11 squares and print them out on paper.
3) Tape the seperate pieces of paper, on the back of a piece of glass.
4) Cut out your tint on the front of the glass, using the picture as a reference.
5) Move over the film, and apply a clean piece of liner, over the artwork.
6) Position the film in place over the graphic, and anchor with water.
7) Peel off the film's liner.
8) Wet with slip and pull up the bottom piece of liner, the graphic will be in place for installation.
9) squeegee out the slip gently, and let dry. and cover with a solid piece of film.

here's the result:

looking good dude..nice work..were did you get your colored film from?
zolar
Thanks TG !,

The blue & green mirror are Big J's Architectual green & blue 35% with PS glue, now sold under the name Flash.
The red is the single-ply stuff (I think from SG)

The red was hard to see on a charcoal background, The graphic (and defrosters) would have stood out a little more, on a reflective film.

The chrome is Ga. legal 35% VLT < 20% reflective Krome from Schmadico.

The gold is J's architectual gold mirror 20% with PS glue. (there is a town car in JAX I did for a limo co. in the gold)

The black tribal is 15% SP of J's

I just realized I used 6 different films for this graphic hmmmmmmm.gif thats a first

Here is the graphic I used. It is a cut/ paste hack of 3 different tattoo flash designs.
The customer had a similar piece of art, on his arm. Not quite goat surgery, but it will pass.

Some of my red is SG, some of it is Schmolar-tek

They look identical to each other,

I dont get many requests for the colors.

Thank you very much zolar!! thumb.gif I love doing custom shiat. In fact many of the designs i've done were done exactly the same way as you described above. Plotters work well, but there's something to be said for custom work without one. thumb.gif

I must agree, although the NT leaves quite an impression on the 'ole finger & thumb

I am working on a 3' x 5' , 3 color Hummer H2 for my rolling sign, that will be kinda impressive..

Maybe I will carve out a goat for 'ya too beer.gif

Good tip. I ahve been doing graphics in this fashion for a couple of years. If you are working on glass without defrosters, you can tape the scaled graphic right to the glass you are applying the graphic to. Actually apply the film and do the cutting right there... just make sure you peel off the scraps before the adhesive dries up too much.
zolar
Rain on, brother Metint. That is bitchin'

I don't think I want to try it though!

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
