This is the one with laminated front windows. Luckily they're so flat that it doesn't need heating at all.

Full Version: 2005 Grand Cherokee
I did one today. Pop loose the front corner cap, remove the screw on the front of the panel, and the one in the door handle....then the top of the panel will unlip from the gasket and the gasket pulls right out.

ok, call me a noob again... I'm gathering that heating a laminated window will cause it to shatter?
Why is that? What cars have laminated windows? How can u tell the glass is laminated? QUOTE (Kemble @ Jun 28 2005, 11:26 PM) ok, call me a noob again... [*]294652[/*] when heating something laminated such as a windshield you have to be real careful and try to just heat the film and not the glass itself. because it will shatter.
So i'm assuming it doesnt take much heat then.
Why does it do that? is it in the way the glass is made?
The heat difference between the two pieces of glass and the inner layer will cause it to expand at extremely different rates...somethings got to give.
Find yourself some IWFA Education Guides, it will help you learn the ins and outs of different films and glass types.
hey blade, I noticed on my 2006 grand cherokee that there seems to be some felt on the seal at the top of the door panel, the one that runs the entire width of the door panel from the side mirror area all the way to the lock-knob. Is there something inside the door that needs felt as well?
thanks -ed QUOTE (idealrides @ Feb 20 2006, 03:04 PM) hey blade, I noticed on my 2006 grand cherokee that there seems to be some felt on the seal at the top of the door panel, the one that runs the entire width of the door panel from the side mirror area all the way to the lock-knob. the felt you're talking about is the gasket that i described how to remove. nothing needs felt.
blade -Ive never pulled that one or the 05's is the second seal on the same track as the first one?

[*]373890[/*] damn! i guess i was reading your other thread in this forum where you said you had to felt the 2004 GC and i figured it was the same... but it seems they started using felt again with the new body style. Well I was waiting to tint her until I got this roll of 3/4" adhesive felt for $3 on ebay and now that I got it I checked the seal and it had the felt! But thanks for the panel instructions... I'm goin' in!
The NEW body style GC DOES HAVE FELT, i looked at one yesterday. Did the body style change in 05
I know the previous body style GC DID NOT have felt.
04 no felt no laminated glass
05 felt and lami
THATS IT
exactly.

but don't call it your "baby." when i hear that word from my customers i usually raise my price $100.
and i don't treat the car differently when it's your "baby"
Oh come on????? You won't treat it special even for a benji????!!!!!!!
btw I finally got my hands on 50' of huper optik ceramic tint, the darkest they had was 34%VLT that stuff is so thick I'm glad the side windows of the WK are not complex curved.... the old WJ was a PITA to shrink - it'd be impossible with ceramic -ed QUOTE (ninjatinter @ Feb 20 2006, 10:36 PM) Oh come on?????
