Full Version: lil help please
for starters, .i've got a 95 hyundai elantra, a new engine was put in it i believe in 00 or 01. i just was given the car like a year ago, and i had to keep running it throughout the winter because i didnt have my license yet and it wasnt on the road yet. one time for a few days i left it and didn't start it and after that it would no longer start. i've tried to charge the battery but nothing would happen when i tried to start it, nothing at all, not even any clicks. what advise can someone give me on what to do and to get for it and how much ill be spending roughly. thanks.
im not a mechanic, but you should get the alternator tested, thats what recharges your battery when your driving, good luck
check all your engine grounds and make sure they all have a good clean connection. i would also take your starter out and have that and the battery checked at a auto parts store to see if the are good. usually if your not even hearing clicks the battery is dead or the starter solenoid is burnt.
Get a volt check done on the battery, if that is up to speck have a "load" check done to it. If it fails the "load" check, the battery is probably sulfated ( junk ). Start with the source and work your way up. It could be a stuck or like mentioned above a burnt solenoid, or a starter malfuction.( possibly the bendix )
I didn't think anyone did "growler" tests to starters anymore?
It also could be something as little as a blown fuse, or fusible link.
does the car have any power to the ignition or lights?
thanks a lot everyone, i found a starter for like 40 bucks and a new battery for bout 60, ill try the works with that and hope it goes well.
right, no power at all, no lights no clicks.
probably the battery if you have no power
it could be the alt wire is loose
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
