Huber or V-Kool for car windows?

I'm actually a flat glass dealer who may want to have my own car windows tinted (for heat reduction) in a state which is very restrictive on auto tint.

Would Huber Optik or V Kool be the best choices for blocking heat without making it obvious to the cops that the glass has been tinted? Any recommendations?

VKool 70... definitely the best for performance with an illusive or indistinguishable look. thumb.gif

how much heat really does 70 Vcool block out?

not enough icon_mrgreen.gif
Devil with bad attitude
Their blurb will state a 94% reduction in heat but only in IR. finger.gif
It may have to be edge sealed as well in order to prevent corrosion.
I have seen that problem first hand, experienced same again first hand with film on glass samples and even seen it corrode on their film swatch sample.
Near enough to being nearly invisible once on glass.

Does V Kool (and also does Huber) need to be edge sealed? I've heard V Kool needs to be edge sealed on flat depending upon how close to the coast you are.

That's easy. Try their method of detemining infrared rejection (IR). Infrared radiation is 53% of the solar spectrum so if the TSER = 55%:

Divide 53 by 55 = 96% IR.

Another: 49% TSER, divide 49 by 53 = 92% IR

In California, the law states that you can apply a film onto the 2 front doors as long as the film and glass combined has a visible light transmittance of 70% or greater. Most vehicles come with factory glass around 75-78% so only a clear film like the UV Shield from Llumar is legal.

I have been offering V-kool 70% at my shop for about 2 years now and alot of my customer's choose this film for the 2 front doors as it is virtually invisible when installed. The claimed solar energy rejection is 55% with an astounding 90-94 Infrared heat rejection. I am not exactly sure how they measure all these figures but I really wish all film companies will go through the same standardized testing to get a true evaluation of what each film can do.

The V-Kool 70% film definitely should be edge sealed with some insulating compound but I have not edge sealed the V-Kool tint job on my car and it has been on for 2 years with no problems.

Huper Optik ceramic film is not as good for heat rejection as their 50% ceramic film has a solar energy rejection of 49% and Infrared rejection of around 64% if I am not mistaken. Their Sech and Drei line will reduce more heat but still not quite as good as the V-Kool.

Overall if you want to drive in comfort and not worry about getting a citation for !llegally tinted front door windows, I would highly recommend going with the V-Kool 70%. V-Kool also makes a 75% but that still does not pass the strict California State law on most vehicles.

I've got a buddy who got paid on a windshield job with two boxes of inch v-kool 70% and he does'nt tint anymore so parting it out and making some money on it would suite him, I'll find out for you!

All films do including the two you have mentioned.

Except...

Why do you find all others using TSER and not IR as a means of determining performance?

Why is it that when called out on such questions as to what standardized test is used for IR determination their standard reply is, 'You're just bad mouthing our product', which in reality is only a deflection from the original question and a way of diminishing any attention drawn their direction?

Good products the both of them and have important roles in the industry's market reach, they just need be frank with their testing, advertising and marketing info. Then there would be no reason to call into question where the numbers come from. dunno.gif
