Sometimes I worry about my tinters...

Full Version: Sometimes I worry about my tinters...
We have an extremely successful tinting portion of our company. Part of the success is due to our company having probably two of the best tinters in this town. Sometimes I worry that I am overworking and overstressing them. From 8-5 we average about 8 full tints and some little stuff in between. What do you guys think? Is this about average?
HA i do 5 or 6 a day myself in 8 hours. Your not over working 2 guys with 8 cars. 2 guys that know whats up should be able to knock out DOUBLE that working together.
Just my opinion though. I would think i`m on vacation doing 8 cars WITH help
My installer and I can usually do a 4 door car in about 45 minutes. I've got 19 years experience, he's got almost 2 years (he tints like it's much more though). Amount of cars done in a day varies. Some we pull panels, some we don't. Full vehicles can mean many things too, truck, car, SUV. It's just us 2 doing EVERYTHING. Answering phones, dealing with walk-ins, plus tinting, and cutting and weeding vinyl.
right now its just three of us, no rookies here
last week we did 15 and still had an hour left before we closed (no bullshiat) just wish it was like that everyday!
I can only pull 4 a day... i'm such a loser
(tintdude @ Jul 1 2005, 09:09 PM) I can only pull 4 a day... i'm such a loser [*]295607[/*] if u alone ranger then thta's ok, i do the same...or were both losers!
Seriously, i can only do 4 a day, 5 if pressed, never been able to do more. I think i put to much into them, striving for quality and all that..but then again i'm old.
i sometimes get caught up in that same way TD, the more careful you are the more you try to do a "good" job the shiitier it comes out

Perhaps you should ask them how they feel.
Then buy them some beer.
I think 8 a day for two people is reasonable...depending on what they are tinting. Most days P and I don't tint but 4 completes
We are old too
I 3rd the old school
4 is plenty, 5 if your'e lucky I am an old "alone ranger" 8- 10 ? put the pipe down Z (tintdude @ Jul 2 2005, 12:10 AM) Seriously, i can only do 4 a day, 5 if pressed, never been able to do more. [*]295611[/*] im with you ric...i can do 4-5 a day tops...anything more..i feel like im cheating my clients out of a quality job,,but then again..i take most panels off, and i take out certain cars front window out..which take a little more time..but "I" think it is worth it..
but to answer the original ?...i dont feel that your workers are being over worked with that amount of cars
i don't think you're working them too hard. I've done 7 by myself in a 9 hr. day (no lunch), but it was a pain in the arse. 4 is more of my pace.
I have been tinting 20 years full time and the most I have ever done in 1 day myself is 6, but when i am done I go over every window and push out any small fingers, wipe off the soap streeks from the paint, wipe off all the door panels,so many time i see cars that were just tinted and i see small fingers because someone just shoed them out the door as soon as they slapped the tint on
For the most part I think most tinters are over worked and under paid, thats why you always see people on here wondering why they can't keep good tinters,if your tinter is tinting 4 cars a day every day and he is not takeing home 50K he is under paid and that is based on 4 cars a day 5 days a week at a conservative $159 car and him getting 30 %

Devil [*]295980[/*] Taxes... paying a commission in many ways benefits the shop owner... What Mr. P speaks above was the scenario in my shops back in Florida... difference being in the %... I paid higher than 30... I wanted to keep my installers, too and didn't have any biz sense. All them peeps talking old can keep on talking old and soon find out they are... me? I am not old, but 4-5 cars a day was my fill from the time I found my groove to the time I stopped doing it on a daily basis. I am not old I am older... old is always 15 years older than I am today.
and 15 years Younger than REALLY old

you arn't overworking, them, but take care of them by buying them coffee, doughnuts, lunch, small gifts, sometimes it the little things that keep people happy, just showing u appreciate there work. My last boss 5 years ago would book 5, or 6 cars, a day i would do them, some rushed, if there was still time left in the day, he would book extras, with not even a thank you, thats why i quit and started my own shop, best thing i ever did!!!!!!!!!!
8 cars is enough..If you give 'em more they will make so much money that they will end
up opening their own shops!!
we have 2 tinters, myself and the bosses son.. on my owen if the work is in i can do about 6 cars a day.. depends in the cars tho.. small cars like vauxhall (opel) corsa's (3 or 5 door hatch backs) will take an average of an hour.. just depends.. my specialty is a corsa(which i own!) can be done from start to finish including cleaning it up 2 in 30 mins...
but to be honest if i dont have allot of work in i take longer to do the job.... Otherwise I'd have said "hit the road pal, I can do this myself if you do not appreciate what I do for you".
I would appreciate a simple " thank you" when I get my check

Take good care of yout tinters, they´re the one´s who keep the cash flowin in. No good tinters...no good cash! it´s their experience and craftsmanship that you base your shop on!

Doesn't matter if you're mom&pop or Wal-Mart, you're gonna pay as little as possible to make your $$$. Free trade y'all!! This post is sort of a good natured jab at my boss who also frequents this site. The wording was not well thought out and I thought it needed editing: I believe that the VAST majority(if not all) of the members of this forum, whether shop owner or employee, are a great community of honest, hard-working people, some of whom have helped me(directly and indirectly)very much since the start of my auto instalation career. Although we like to joke around alot on this site, I believe it is incumbent upon all of us as professionals to convey to those surfing this site that first and formost we hold our work to the highest of standards. Period. Thanks to TD for calling me out on this one!
18 yr exp now.. a fact for me is the faster i tint quality goes down some. if i take my time PERFECTION BABY!!

to tint 45: I am actually a shop owner! Have 4 employees and making good money too! Not by giving my tinters as little as possible but keeping them as happy as possible...good pay and a little extra from time to time...
It´s keeping them loyal to the company and me,and makes them work that little extra bit that matters! Plus it makes it more fun working together, when everybody´s reasonably happy with the work situation! It´s grade A psychology! Try it! You´ll find it works!! BTW: I´m based in Sweden, guess we have different aspects on things like these..
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
