what shade should I use

Custom Search

SIR TINTSALOT
I just lined up a few good jobs for next week and I am trying to determine what shade I should use.
I got 3 Burger King restaurants to do, one next week and two the week after. They sent me to see one that has colored glass and told me they want the 3 with clear glass to match the one with colored glass. To me it looks like 20% with not much reflectiveness to it. I usually use suntek or johnsons for this, but the suntek commercial line is way too reflective. Johnsons gots a film called DN20 that seems to match pretty good, but it is hard to tell from a small swatch if it is going to be too refective or not. Things sometimes look way different once applied to big windows.
The shade I am looking for is real common on stores and schools that have factory tinted glass. So those of you that know this info please let me know asap cause I need to order the film on Monday.

By the way this is a good way to start off the new year, I got 3 burger kings, and one car dealer to do in the first two weeks. Hopefully that is a sign that business is going to be great this year. smile22.gif
metint
35%... 20% is too dark... is it grey, bronze, green, or blue tinted glass? Dual pane?
SIR TINTSALOT
single pane, it has a charcoal smoked look to it. From all the swatches it looks darker than the 35, and when I should some larger samples to the guy in charge he said it was definitely darker than 35. I'd h@te to put the wrong shade and have him unhappy. Plus the outcome if this job is going to be the weighing factor on whether or not he has me do the other two.
willie
congrats on starting the new year with a bang

however tell them your not burger king and they will get it your way sweat.gif

just kiddin - good luck with them beer.gif
SIR TINTSALOT
thanks willie

I'll check back this afternoon, I got 2 cars I got to go do.
any good advice is welcome.

Where's Tint when you need him?
metint
Have a 2 pc light meter to measure the glass VLT?

It's possible you are facing that dark of a glass...

Have you held up different samples next to this pane?

Most the time a sample will appear darker... this is because of all the light streaming by and around the sample. If you put up 35% sample and it matches, it is more than likely a 20% glass and so on.

Light meter will give you a definitive answer without a sample shuffle.
blade
it's always a pain in the azz to try and match up with tinted glass.

STA- best bet would be take someone with you and have him serve you a second opinion, or ask the restaurant manager, iv'e had many same circumstances where i've had to match film, but as you know, as we all know, if its film on those windows now, its always going to be a slight bit of a difference, in color, or in shade percentage, i woudnt guarantee an exact match, unless they know the brand that those windows were tinteed with and what percentage exactly. and even then that film has been exposed, because of that reason, even if you get the exactly film, it still wont match because your applying new film. capiche?
SIR TINTSALOT
I'm trying to find film to match a colored glass, not a film. It is a real common color that I see on 75% of shopping centers and business windows. It is a smoked look, almost identical to 20%hp suntek, but like metint said it might be 35%. I wish I had a light meter!!!! I'm thinking of putting 35%. I'll go by monday morning and double check before ordering.

go get a light meter...and make sure dude dunno.gif

you could always put a mock up piece of 35 and 20 to see which one matches the best.

Good idea... not many tinters see the value in using film in this way.

I once did a job where they wanted to see Vista 38 and Vista 28 side by side... did it in a den with four panel window setting looking across mangroves to the Gulf.

The job was awarded they just couldn't decide... meanwhile distributor stockpiled V-28 in anticipation... they chose V-38 and it had to be drop shipped from Martinsville because... well it's been said.

Went from that 550 sq ft condo to doing the whole building. Example used, one was removed and replaced, but not wasted.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
