Full Version: New A6 - Gaskets

The new audi A6 cannot be tinted without removing the glass. The rubber gasket is connect with the felt at the side of the frame which means it cannot be removed. Unless you are a tucker you have got no chance. If anyone can correct me that would be interesting to know

As we all know, Audi and VW are kin, and so alike are the seals....... to a degree, their similairity is they are soft seals, deep inside channels, and high outside trim. It may not seem the right way to do things, but, butt the straight edge of your film on the outside trim on your precut, and when installing, pull the top half of the liner, place, fix, roll up, pull rest of liner. the bottom edge will just want to sneak over the top of the seal, take a hard card and run a edge across the bottom, it should place the tint just bellow the edge..........make very dry........you quality shouldnt change if applied right, it hasnt mine, Im a perfectionist almost to a fault, and at times I lose money for it, so I try to find ways to satisfy me and keep my jobs in a timely manner. Hope this is of any use to you gasp.gif

I've done a couple of these and I've found that if I cut the front and back edges of the film really short it works out perfect. For example I usually cut on the outside edges of my marks, well on the A6 I cut on the inside edge. I also cut a really large curve in the bottom, back edge corner of the front two windows as it seems the gasket down there is very tight.

I have to tint one on tuesday 30% white with tan interior. How are the back windows for one piece? from looking at it I would say bulky thats about it. Anyone done a sunstrip?

The back window is a very easy one piece. The only things I recall sucking about the car were the gaskets being pretty damn tight, on the front two windows the backside of the bottom edge of the window has a really tight gasket there that I couldn't get the tint shoved past, and the panel in the headliner you take off to get the brakelight out was in there really, really tight. It esentially pulls straight down but that thing was in there good.

Great tips G-olds that gasket is a biatch just lie you said. I'll post some pics soon so I can prove Imnot just talkin smack.

is it not possible to cut the door seal and take it out, thus separating it from the felt all round the window? tried fitting it without taking anything off and found it an absolute nightmare, any help would be welcolmed please.gif

Only cut the film for the glass...dont have any overhang top/bottom/sides.

You will have to sneak the film behind the botttom gasket by 1mm and micro edge the top.

Not easy but doable

I have in the past cut the bottom seal away from the side rubbers to allow the film to slide a fair way down..
I removed the parcel shelf aswell (c-post panels off, back seats out) was a @#$% to do. Don't mind if I don't see another one for a while !

I have done one of these and i separated the bottom piece of gasket using a scalpel. you have to be very careful making sure you do it very neatly so it looks as though it came from the factory in that way. make life much easier.

This is custom tinting at it's best. I does work, add trim adhesive to assure gasket will not walk down the line. and charge for a full cut $$$,.... most of these cars are leases and the clients are looking for Sentra prices..... so the other less consuming way is not such a bad idea

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
