Full Version: Pa Tint Laws

I am moving to Philly in April and was wondering about the tint laws. 70% all windows. What is the deal with that? Will it ever change? Why so light? Does anybody have any pictures of a 4 door car or suv with 70% on it. I am either looking at getting a Chrysler 300 or Jeep Grand Cherokee. All replys are much appreaciated.
Thanks
TOM

for a pic of the car your buying with 70%, go to the dealer, find one with factory glass and there you go.

70% is really nothing.

its dumb but its thanks to the people who put !llegal tint on the cars, they do that, then the lawmakers feal they have to crack down even harder, pretty soon we got laws of no tint.

Cheese, Tiger is right 70% means nothing on the front 2 windows.Pa has a very strict law & the cops around the philly suburbs will ticket you sooner or later. You may get away with putting 50% .The philly cops have much more to worry about but if you go for dark they will pull you over too. copcar.gif

You really have to thank all those criminals with limo tint who decide to for one reason or another to pull a gun on a cop walking up to a car with no visability and open fire. You have to look at it from a cop's point of view. It's 2am ur all alone and u pull over a car all the widows are blacked out. You walk up to the driverside window and when they roll it down ur looking down the business end of a glock. Who do u think are pushing for all these laws--- THE COPS. Just because you or the Citizen of the year would never dream of pulling a gun on a cop, doesnt make the cop pulling you over feel any safer walking up to a black'd out window'd car. Im not a cop or anything, but I see thier point. Blame it on those Bad Apples who have killed cops in this fashion. Im not a hater but thats my twocents.gif

You can get away with 35% in the burbs, in the city the cops have better things to do. I've had 35 on all my cars and never had a problem. Knock on wood!!

i just got busted by a state trooper in pa for driving with my windows down. i saw him coming up behind me for a mile and rolled them down and he passed me, pulled onto the berm of the road and waited for me to go by (i still had my windows down). then he pulled me over and said that i was the only person he ever seen driving around in february with windows down. he made me roll them up and they read less than 2% light transmittance on his meter. i had 2.5% all around on my mustang and thats the first time i ever had trouble, but i was always very cautious. i never thought i would get busted such a stupid way. i think i will retint with 30%

2%, geez, how could you even see your mirrors?

Just in a legality question, I thought the only thing an officer can make you do is step out of the car, present a license and be patted down. After that, you reserve the right to be silent.

you don't have the right to shiatt BOY
put your hands where I can see them BOY
is there anything in the car I need to know about...Boy
...then you won't mind me looking around, ..........well now what do we have here evilgrin.gif gasp.gif

the only right you have anymore, is the opposite side of your left trust.gif

if you want laws reformed, you must do what the big corporations do, to pass legislation
.....buy a legislator, or two evileye.gif

All of these guys are correct about the laws , and that philly is more lax then the suburbs. Philly the only thing that will get you stopped is limo, but go into the burbs and 35 might get you pinched.

Trust me I live in philly and work out of penndel I know both sides of the fence on this matter.

But for the people who say they see the cops point of view about tint. Do you honestley feel a cop is safer pulling over an suv or pick up truck with 5% on the rear glass that is legal. And they are not safe pulling over a honda accord with 35% all the way around.

Are they safer in florida then here in pa or ny. Dont I aslo have a right to protect my intierior and cut down on my gas.

Statisticly speaking witch has been a higher fatality rate. police pulling over dark tinted vehicles or car crashes due to drivers bieng blinded by the sun or even other cars headlights. I am a blue eyed person so my eyes are more naturaly sensitive to light. I have actualy had to pull over before because the sun was to bright for me to see. Yes you can use sunglasses as a fix, but what about when you are making a turn and then the light comes from the side all of a sudden and bam you cant see and crash. Or at nite when it is another cars headlights behind you blinding you.

And as far as the officers saftey wouldnt they be more likeley to be shot in a large city with alot of crime such as philly. Or in a small suburban town with little to no crime. Yet the city cops dont worry about it, and the small town cops do, because they have nothing better to do.

Now I do agree limo is to dark for any car. Not becuase the cops cant see in. Simply because it is dangerous at nite, if you cant see out of the windows your a danger to everyone on the road.

Window tint is a hazard to a cop's safety is a cop out... pardon the pun!

Statistically... far more cops die from accidents (of all kinds) occurring on the job than those shot through tinted windows. inot.gif

As to cars being tinted presenting a threat to a cops safety... hys.gif they face the same situation when approaching a home, apartment, place of business, etc... you don't see them crying to the politicians over architectural tint or blinds or drapes or shutters or doors with no windows... spit.gif

And by the by... they are the only group crying...

I've been pulled over NUMEROUS times for Tint on all the vehicles I owned..

One of the latest was an '08 Ford F-350 Crew Cab. I was at work, in the parking lot. He was making his rounds of the grounds, and asked if it was mine. I said Yes. he said that the tint on the front doors was !llegal... Ok.. it was 20% Limo DARK. which was lighter then 20% Limo BLACK. the back doors and window had 5% Limo dark OVER factory.. he said that was ok cuz it was "factory" haha.

He told me he wished he had the meter to put on the windows. I said to him, well I have a question for you, since you're sitting here with me now.. How come I see cars that look like a police cruiser that aren't marked, Tinted 5% all the way around (except for the windshield) and he told me that was for Survailance... I'm sorry.. are you survaling WHILE YOUR DRIVING???? bs. bs_flag.gif

Super DooDiE
I've never been hassled for tint on my rears. All my vehicles were 5% behind the front doors.

Except my Bronco... I had 5 on the doors. I used to roll the windows down when I saw a cop. I did that for about 5 years. when I got a 04 250 extended cab, I did 5 on the backs and 20 on the front doors.. NEVER had a problem in the 3 years I owned that.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
