new tint job - vertical streaks
Joyride

I recently got my windows tinted and waited the 5 days they told me to before I rolled the windows down. When I rolled it down and back up again, I noticed some vertical streaks or stratches on the film. There are several of them and they are fairly noticable from the inside, but not so noticable from the outside.
My question is this: is this a result of not waiting long enough before rolling the window down? (i live in ohio so its cold here, maybe should have given it more time). If thats the case I will ask them to re-tint it and then give it a couple weeks before I roll down.
Or are these streaks/stratches inevitable and would have occurred no matter how long I waited to roll the windows down?
Its an 06 accord coupe and I dont think they used any felt, but im not sure.
thx

It has nothing to do with the installation...Everything to do with the hard plastic gaskets on the Accord. They need felt. There is no cheap way around it.

Ughhh that sucks
So you're telling me this would've still happened if I had waited a few weeks before rolling the windows down?

Ok, so do most shops felt the gaskets? Is this a tedious process or what? You would think the tint shop would be aware of this common problem with the accord, and be sure to felt them. But they obviously didn't. Maybe I should try to find a shop that is competent.

[*]378788[/*] its not the window tinting shops problem...it is the manufactors problem...even if you wouldnt have had the tint installed..the would be the possibility the windows themself would scratch take it back to the car dealership..they are the ones that tryed to cut corners and save money by putting in rubber gaskets...not the window tinter. you can call the shop that did the tintting for you...and see what they want to do..some will felt them for you.(for a cost).and some will tell you it isnt their problem. granted..the shop should have known about these seal and should have givin you the option of felting them..or not....this is what i do..i tell my costumers that it needs to be done..by me..at a cost..or take it back the the dealership.

(vclimber @ Mar 5 2006, 02:04 PM) Most experienced shops are aware of the problem. [*]378792[/*] I believe there's a larger percentage, experienced or not, that are not aware... I field too many calls on this issue to be able give a blanket statement like that Vc. Furthermore, I do not believe there's consistency in whether a car has felt or hard plastic... some Honda's no problem.... others... well Joyride is onto one... pardon the pun play off the pen name. Can't blame the installer...

Personally since i know about the problem i make it aware to the person beforehand and let them make the decision on wether or not to tint the car.
I own a 04 honda accord 4dr and put the felt on it, it seriously cut down on the scratches but still got some even after felting but it was dramatically decreased. I was not convinced that the felt would stop the scratches 100% mabey 99% but if it does scratch your expected to fix it over and over....
The thing is if you charge extra money for felting a car and it still scratches even once the customer is gonna hold you responsible for it, because in their mind they paid for a fix and it didnt work like they thought it was going to 100%.
I tell people beforehand and when it happens they need to go complain to the service department at the honda dealership, multiple complaints are the only way honda is going to go back to putting felt gaskets back in their cars.
I want nothing to do with this design fvck up from honda, its a headache i did not create and i dont think i should be responsible for trying to jigger rig it.

That aside, I have seen it in this forum and from many other tinters that I know personally that the majority are all aware of the issue. If a shop does any kind of volume they would have run across this problem a while ago. I find it hard to believe that those who are just encountering it are the majority. [*]378813[/*] i think some of these shops that arent aware of it...are the ones that tuck..and never come across knowing that the seals dont have felt on them...

Believe it or not some people keep their windows up all year round!! Like the dude in the suit that will never be caught dead ordering from a drive thru place or even drive up to a bank to make a transaction!! So you'll never hear anything from them whether gaskets are tearing it up felt it or not!!

I dont have the volume some of you guys have, and have just recently run across this problem with the mustang, which I believe was my first post, thanks for the help everyone. I have tinted countless number of honda's, mustangs, and I believe there are a couple more out there that need felt, but haven't had any comebacks for scratches before joining this site. The first mustang that I saw, the customer is a regular, came back to the shop for us to order something, and I noticed the scratches in the film. They were just riding around unaware there was a problem. Lucky me I guess. Now that I have learned of a fix to this problem, thanks to you guys, , I had two Mustangs in here yesterday to re-do the door glasses from another shop. I used the moleskins, but I m going to order the product TG talked about on a previous thread.

Something else....but plenty have used the CR laurence felt without issue. If it's not prepped right, anything will fail.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
