how many do you remove the rear deck when tinting a new A8????
We've done 5 or 6. Rear deck always removed.
Can't be a very fun time, I would imagine.
I tint many of these cars, I just take out the headrests and leave the deck in. There are squeegys that can fit in the area at the bottom of the glass.

Normally we would take the deck out of the Merc CLS as well, but after some advice from ArtOfTint, we actually did one last week and left the deck in, saved a LOT of time, and turned out pretty darned good.
Sooooo, next time we do an Audi A8, we'll give it a whirl. You dont know until you try. There is always somebody who can do hard things the easy way, and props to AOT for that. holy crap...how many places are you going to post those pics...
When removing all that stuff from an A8, there are rear airbags that have to get unplugged and if you turn power on before plugging them back in, the car will need to go to the dealership to get reset.
I learned that one the hard way. F'n A8's. QUOTE (the art of tint @ Mar 8 2006, 05:47 PM) [*]380060[/*] I tint many of these cars, I just take out the headrests and leave the deck in. You need a little strength, but after you do it once they come out easier. Putting them back takes some technique, but you'll get it!! A friend dropped off a 04 A8 to tint. After checking it out for 30min or so, I wasn't going to tackle it. The info I got reading this forum has at least got me interested in giving it a go. I let you know how it went. Thanks for the motivation

Well, I tried it and it worked great. I didn't really want to be defeated by a car after 15 years of tinting.
I removed the headrests, one piece back window, perfect install with the Bulldozer squeegee. A couple of pointers I picked up on my first attempt: The headrest posts don't slide very well so I gave them a shot of WD40 before I tried to pull them out. Made a big difference. You do have to pull on them quite hard, back a forth but they came. Also on re-installation I noticed it was easier to start the post in the hole with the push button first. Get it going then force the other post in. Then put your shoulder into the headrest and push, fairly hard and voila, back down they go. Also, I green taped the speaker grills at the very back so water wouldn't get in them. I swear, a couple of hours ago I wasn't going to attempt this car, but the input from Tintdude made all the difference. Happy tinting!
cool.
not an eazy car to tint... The ones you need to pull with all your might to get out sometimes...pulling muscles of all sorts you didn't know you had in your arms and shoulders! I tried to lift the head rests out but they stopped at the top of the windshield and the seats did not fold down, so how did you do it?

I too have had problems with the 08 A8. Yesterday we did one for the local Audi dealer. When pulling up and out on the headrests, my apprentice - who usually does excellent work - broke one of the plastic collars the posts slide into down in the seat. We stopped trying to remove the other headrest. Tinted the rear window and put it back together and sent it on it's way. Next time we will be VERY careful when trying to remove them. But let me tell you, THEY SUCK!

these picks keep me focused on the next one
They definately are a pain in the a$$, first time removed the seats and back deck, second time just the seats, after a few of them you get used to it...had to get a cold one after the first one though
thats the right idea... may be a few cold ones after out of the shop.
Just did the new A8 and it wasnt bad at all. Back window a bit tricky but with the bulldozer... not bad. Rolldowns = Cake.
