i did one of these lastnight...and decided to take the panels off...holy sheit...i have done one of these before...but i dont remember the pops on the bastards being that hard to pop off...im wondering if it wasnt an 06 1/2 with different pops on the panels.

i tell you what...if i ever do another one ...the top of the panel is getting pulled and the seal coming out that way.. tantrum.gif

has anyone else taken the panels off on these cars?
tintgod
and usually....i take the windows out on these cars..cuz in the previous years...it only took a 10mm bolt to loosen...and released a clamp..and the window was out...not anymore...i couldnt figure how to take it out.. hmmmmmmm.gif
big money
I have tinted a few of these. The first one i did, the door panel fasteners poped so loud, you could here it outside the shop. I finakky figured out on the second car, if you take the panel puller tool and just barely pop the fastener, the hole clip slides right out. This works kinda like the old push peg on the upper corner of the small toyota trucks.
blade
the panels pops have a center point when looking at them from the side. push your panel popper into that center point and it spreads the pops apart and they come right out.

the one that i did...didnt need any trimming...it had matrix around it..but the rubber seal had a gap so that you can slide the film up past it....dont of the rubber does over lap the matix...i may have just got lucky on this one..the panels were hard enough on this car..i dont want to mess with taking the 1/4s out..i didnt even check to see if they can be taken out..i will check on my next one though for ya. thumb.gif

that later models i take out though

Trim the seal.
[*]382329[/*]

WTF?....why would you do that?
Al-tint
On the ones that I have done, the rubber seal is tight to the glass and part on the matrix. I trim them slightly to ease the tint in. I was wondering if anyone took them out and if so, how?
big money
WTF? I thought it was multiple choice, take the quarter out? Why not cut flush on the sides, leave the bottom a little long , slide the film up under the seal on the install, and trim the film on the bottom if needed. dunno.gif

Hi all you tinters of VW's...

I'm new here, but I am not a tinter, which is why I didn't post in the Intro section. I'm just here for my boss heh... I work in an auto detailing shop and 2 guys do the tinting. Both of them h@te doing VW's... Well, German cars in general heh.. Anyways, they both wanna know how to pull the panels off the new 2006 VW's, especially the Jetta and Passat....

I'd like to know if there are any hidden screws that have to be taken out. I've seen 2 screws - just below the side-rearview mirror (for the front doors) and another on the bottom (all doors)... Just wondering if there are any in the door handles. Or is it all just poppers?

Thanks in advance...

Nvm... I just read tintgod's post for 05 jetta I did today... thanks...

There are also small torx screws along the bottom of each panel, pop off the covers on the handles, there are two bigger torx screws behind there, BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE WINDOW SWITCH!!! If you "hang" the rear door panel by the wire going to the window switch, it WILL break.... I use a box or bucket to keep the panel up level with the door....

I was just joking man ... I know you guys (at least most of you guys) take great pride in your job. You just gotta understand that coming from someone on the outside, it all sounds rather scary. orngbiggrin.gif

now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
