J&J Baby Shampoo vs Dish soap

Full Version: J&J Baby Shampoo vs Dish soap
When using either for tint, what is the difference? Does one let you move it better?
J&J is recommended by some MFG's because it does not contain extra silicon additives that could inhibit the adhesive's ability to stick to the glass. Some dish soap brands contain degreasers and conditioners (Dawn, Palmolive) that can also have a negative effect on the adhesive.

[*]383054[/*] used the jaj for years , once i tried the film on, never went back [*]383056[/*] Film On is my first choice but you can't use it with every film so then J&J is my next choice unless it is a film where X-100 is recommended.
used suave baby first until they discontinued it. then went to j&j. dont like it because it builds up in the polysprayers and then shoots big goops into your tint. i use palmolive now. you hardly have to use any to get the film to slide around, but it tastes nasty. film on is good too, i put some film on in also on hot days when you need more slip.
oh...i get it...Film-on as in a product to use applying film. I thought you were telling me to get back to work. hehe ... I'll look in to it now.

equate baby poo , checked with a molecular chemist at colgate palmolive several years back and main ingredient in most dish soap is ammonia , = bad news . instant purple film
ammonia isn't what causes purple film, and if ammonia were in dish soap, don't you think it would smell like it?
Ammonia... it's does not harm SR unless the SR has something flaky wrong with it to begin with. Hell, SR stands up against hydrofloric acid... and ammonia is suppose to do harm... please.
Guess this thread needed a sweep up, eh? [*]382943[/*] I have been thinking about switching to a diffrent slip agent instaed of J&J due to the J&J that gums up in pressure sprayers. I see that allot of you still use it, but with all the other slip agents out there, are there any I should stay away from?
Haven't found anything perfect, but nothing is worse than J&J for mucking up and gumming up sprayers from my experience.
Does J&J gum up cornelius tanks as well?
i wouldn't use j&j in any pressure sprayer. unless you like taking them apart everyday to flush them out.
Sooner or later you'll have to dismantle and deep clean your pressure rig. Good tint hygene
With J&J it will probably be sooner than later. Like I said though, there are some films out there where you can't use Film-On, X-100, Slip-Ez, etc so J&J is part of the arsenal whether I like it or not.
I have always used dish soap and have never encountered any problems what so ever. Never had gum up or film turning purple or anything. I understand the whole amonia in it deal, but I have never run in to a problem with it.
What problems have you guys come up with using dish soap?
I have used dish soap for almost 20 years now. I have never had a problem. Even the citrusy ones.
J&J all the way, plus it smells good
J and J

[*]383629[/*] Costco – Joy dish soap – about 5 dollars for one gallon!!!! No gummed sprayers no purple film (except the cheap stuff) for years now… you guys are scaring me with all the analyzing and stuff!!!! I’ll probably be buying a case of JJ in quarts tomorrow…..jeez just when I get comfortable using it!!!!!! Really no problems for years ::::: knock on wood………….. hmmmmm I usually tell new people about both products and the pros and cons of each. You know the right stuff is what you use heee heeeeeeee REDOS SU--!

[*]384637[/*] Palmolive has a degreaser in it I think? Palmolive also has a handconditioner in it as well. It would be better to use a soap without these extras.
oh, okay! i will buy johnsons baby shampoo 1st thing in the morning.
been using prell as per OTs old post.
Works fine and no build up, but i aint been using it in the pepsi tank either. jus trigger sprayers
Anyone besides me use Joy brand dish detergent? I have used it since day one and never had a problem with build up and never had issues with tint messing up either.
That's what i started out with 20 years ago, it was actually the recommended slip agent from 3M, but the formula has changed and now is more harsh on the adhesives.
J&J isn't as harsh, and "film on" is basicly J&J minus a few ingredients from what i understand.
See maybee it was just bad luck but I tried j&j and on the three cars I did it all three of the people all came back with film peeling problems. It just seems with the joy that if I squegee hard enough it tacks up a lot faster and also sets up faster like 12 hours it seems? Even with a little heat j&j slip wanted to do just that let the film slip n slide.

yes in the summer the j&j over time will muck up the 5 gallon sprayer, so clean it out,
also if you use a filter you won't have any soap particles that shoot into the tint get one of those clear fuel filters so you can reuse it and cut a piece of micro fiber clouth to fit on the inside and rubber band it on and theres your reuseable filter when the micro fiber gets to soappy change it out and your ready to go again. same thing on any hand held sprayer cut a piece and cover the pick up tube and theres your filter rubber band it on also.
i actually heard that joy is the worst. but i have never tried it.

Yeah some people even beileve that using distilled water over tap is better as well. Saying the metal and stuf from the plants are bad for the glue on the film as these chemicals and irons etc never evaporate from the film. Its hard to say when you dont see allot of returns and know that it is that but I have been using distilled water and JJ for over 5 years now. I get less warrentte redues but I also dropped Dye film about 3 years ago as well.

i use apple palmolive. err have been thinking bout j and j baby. but the stuff i see at the shops is shampoo W/ conditioner in it. its orange in colour.. im not sure weather to buy it ????
Use the Yellow Shampoo... lol in a clear bottle, with yellow lid...
Sprinter, sounds like you have done exactly the same as me regarding your bottle... ;-) QUOTE (vclimber @ Mar 17 2006, 11:35 AM) [*]382997[/*] QUOTE (VO|TRON @ Mar 17 2006, 05:09 AM) Just use J&J shampoo, works better and doesnt burn the eyes if you get it in them [*]382970[/*] Makes you smell better after working all day.
J&J born and raised on it...all the extras in dishsoap keep me away from it, i dont need to degrease my film just have it slippy
i dont like dish soap
i use off brand baby shampoo doesnt seem to muck up sprayer as much
i use j&j but to get the amount of slip i like i feel like i use alot of soap. on a second count how much j&j do yous use in a trigger sprayer
j&j reminds me of when we 1st had tint training
ash
i used j&j forever but now i use the ekerd brand with lavender it seems to last longer and is cheeper

I use J&J "baby wash" rather than shampoo, the reason is it contains less PH, so it takes less time to dry (excellent for 8-mil + jobs) and will not leave any shampagne bubbles either.
