Security film isn't my strong point (havn't done much ..only a few installs.

Question is..other than the recommended corning downing 995 sealant for the window perimeters, is there a GOOD EQUAL substitute that I can get from any home depot? ( I don't trust Home Depot's ) expertise with this particular question and usage.

I don' know if HD sells structural silicone? :hmm If they did, you'd want it in a sausage because if your job is any decent size you will be needing a lot of it. I've always bought mine from the usual tool sources but now we are doing more flexible attachments. Much easier and cleaner. thumb.gif

As far as an equal to 995 we've used Tremco SSG Proglaze.
Devil with bad attitude
TW,
I get my one of my preferred glazier mates to "come in"after the install and he charges the client independantly and does a finer job than I could ever do.

I should have mentioned this is for my recroom windows Flaugh.gif

17 X 21 (10 panes)
and 22x21 (4 panes)

small job ..too small to order a case of the corning downing orngbiggrin.gif

Devil..I had done that B4..I thought of that(I'm not a very good caulker) but thought my own windows would be a good job to practice on orngbiggrin.gif

Go to a glass shop and get some Urethane. For a small job, your own...why not? dunno.gif That stuff will hold anything together. Just an idea. dunno.gif

are they tempered?  if not, you more than likely do not need an attachment system (from what i understand).

My understanding is that no matter what the window, you need some form of caulking for it to be effective...I could be wrong though..as I say, security film is not my strong suit in knowledge orngbiggrin.gif

Most tubes of silicone have acids mixed in. That acid will distroy window film after time

995 does not have it, and it has a much better bonding strength.

You don't need to purchase a case at a time. I buy mine from a construction supply house here in town. SOme times a tube at a time.

Leo TW is installing just a few windows with security film and he wants to use a structural silicone attatchment system but does not want to have to buy a whole case of the Dow 995 or similar product. So he is asking what are his options, can he find just a small amount of structural silicone at a local store?

GE Silicone Type I (clear) = $3.95
Buy one before the label expires. Apply gently with silicone gun on the edges and it'll dry within 2 min. you can use 3M blue painting tape to ensure silicone does not exceeds the 1/2" width.
Once is dry it feels secure and hard as a rock.
Do it after 30 days of SF installed.

Clear silicone has acetic acid in it
and is highly corrosive dunno.gif

If its tempered glass, yes, you MUST anchor it, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
