Thanks for the heads up. Goofy commercial though.
just try not to drink so much next time.
looks like a golf to me

and that back glass is hard why? I have not had one to tint, but looks a whole lot less curved than a bug back..... are the corners that drastic?
QUOTE (zolar @ Jul 11 2006, 06:20 PM) [*]412841[/*] I'd like to kno who gets to tint the cars you see on commercials, and brochures. Those rear screens I do in 3....they are are real shocker like Al said. Devil
I have pics now to show you why I don't like this back glass.
06 Golf - The BG is realitively flat. ![]() 06 Golf - It has a curve at the end. ![]() Now the 07 Rabbit. The glass is about the same size, but the compound curve on this thing is a pita. 07 Rabbit 2.5 ![]() 07 Rabbit side curve ![]() Have fun when you get one. Let me know what brand of LIMO film you use that will shrink to this.
still looks like an even curve....nothing tight on the sides......but I know that things aren't always as easy as they look......

this car ............
Those rear screens I do in 3.... back in 82 ..............if coach would have put me in we would have won state.
cant be worse then shrinking 5 on a bug BG...and the can be done
did you say you used MMM
I don't understand why some people are having a hard time with that back glass. I do about 5 of these a year and never thought much about it. fairly easy is you ask me. Maybe I can help you guys out. Instead of anchoring with the H pattern , just do a horizontal tack. Then , shrink from side to side a little at a time and work it to the edge. When you get to the corners , try not to fight it and srink the fingers vertically , instead ,shrink them at a 45 degree angle. From the center to the corners. this will help your shrinking tecnique on all rear windows.good luck and happy tinting
try wetshrinking it instead of dry.

I tinted one today, the backglass is quite abit harder to tint than the GOLF. The RABBIT glass has more of a WRAP effect on the ends. I got it dryshrinking it but thebottom corners gave me hell.

Yeah, i cant wait to be tinting these every damn day of the week
i dont know

I had another tint shop bring me one of these cuz they couldnt do it. He brought his film which was Global HP and i coulndnt get it down in one so we used my film...suntek hp and it was still a pain the the arse. But i got it down after some time. Not looking foward to doing these on a regular basis
I havn't had the chance to tint one of these yet..by the sounds of it, I'm not looking forward to it
how's the gasket removal on these cars ? do they pop out like 2000 style Jetta's/golfs without having to remove the panel ?
I have done about 6 of these with varying success...initially I struggled, I now find that if you anchor the sides into the clear glass by about 2 inches it will force the fingers towards the middle and reduce the amount of struggle you have on the corners. Dont leave too much at the sides - that's my method.
My LluLuu rep can do these, he cuts the film right to the edge of the glass and then allows one big finger to form which is then shrank to the outside of the matrix - this allows you to lose " a lot of baggage" as he calls it. I do these in powder as in soap - i find you can burn them a little easier once it starts drying up. My 2p Naughty I forgot to add...I have seen this glass out of a car and the aerial connections are right on the edge of the matrix, if you cut your pattern and allow too much space to the side of the matrix when installing, you will get fingers at the side because you are filming over the electrical connection. well i have done two now and the second was a pain in that azz also
Since i do alot of tint papers for the local VW dealer i am sure i will be tinting them daily
The one I did a few weeks ago was a PITA.
![]() Took three times. First shrank really well, but got dirty because it's so tight back there. Second try just went FUBAR on the shrink. Third try, slow and steady and careful and it got on there. I kept my cut as close as possible and didn't have much to worry about. A few fingers along the bottom that I heated out. The rest of the car was easy.
sweet Cobra DD, is it yours?
Not sure about the redneck rims QUOTE (Al-tint @ Jul 14 2006, 01:10 AM) [*]413344[/*] I have pics now to show you why I don't like this back glass. 06 Golf - The BG is realitively flat. ![]() 06 Golf - It has a curve at the end. ![]() Now the 07 Rabbit. Ok in uk the first one is a mk4 golf and 2nd pic is mk5 golf i have done about 10-12 of these at the start they where a right pain, now can shrink in about 15 mins from start to finish in 1 section no probs QUOTE (a1-wintinter @ Aug 12 2006, 11:11 AM) [*]422220[/*] sweet Cobra DD, is it yours? Not sure about the redneck rims HA! I wish. I did both of those cars. I also did a Saleen 281 for his friend (not pictured), but the guy with the Cobra also owns a Saleen 351 (not pictured). I drive this:
I have done a few Rabbits and an 07 GTI (same thing glass wise)
The back window was a bit of a pain, I just went slow on the (dry) shrink and did it one piece but no one has mentioned the front doors! The front part of the front door glass has to be cut a FULL INCH longer then normal as the window moves backwards as it closes (is has a double angle at the front). I scrapped 3 doors in a row the first time I did one. I then marked the extra I need to cut with a paint marker on a chizler, if I remember correctly it is an exact inch of extra you need.
Tinted one of these babies yesterday
I read were MDOd said he had trouble on the bottem corners so I left it about 5" long so I could over shrink the film and it laid down great
Click to view attachmentAfter the wet check
I have done 4 and everyone has been a nightmare for me on the backglass
I would hate to have a vw dealer these days
doing one today for the first time and it's really p1ss1ng me off...... I had to walk away from it.....had a gazillion fingers on the sides, probably from the electrical connections( thanks whoever that was), fixing to go try again, tempted to do a two piece hidden seam, but I'll try one more time. It reminds me of those old civic 2 door wagon deals, y'all remember the one.....

I had problems doing this window in 1 peice as well and I have been tinting for 12 years and do beetles in one piece. It doesn't appear to be very hard but the bottom corners are nasty. I had to put releaf cuts in both bottom corners. I was using formula one pinnacle however which doesn't like to shrink as well as llumar on the 3 I have done so far.

They are very similar to the Golf's back glass in difficulty. I always do them in one piece. The demister lines are way too thin to do them in 2 pieces making the cut line too obvious, and they are criss crossing each other so real possibility in cutting through them. Anyone that can do a bug in 1 piece will have no problem attacking the rabbit. Although I would rather do the bug in 2 pieces for the sake of saving time
I've possibly got one of these on Monday..from the looks of it..it's something to not look forward too
OH YOUR GONNA LOVE IT
did one of these today in cs 20!!!! holy crap it takes a long time for that back window. its saturday and last appointment. dropped it off at 12 picked up at 5. cs 20 on the rear 3 and huper acht on the doors. GTI model but basically a rabbit. didnt know what i was getting into when he called asking if i could do it today. he said two door gti, so i thought cool no problem easy car (but i was thinking of the old style based on the golf) bring it on down. then he chooses 3m and huper. pull it in, last car, and get started on the doors while the other installer gets started on the qtrs. i finish one door and he starts the rear window, calls me over and says look at this, burt two upper corners. so i say anchor it a little higher and then shrink top first, calls me back and bottom is burnt. by this time im done with both doors, so i tell him wet shrink it, burnt first corner he tried. so im like shiat let me try it. go on to dry shrink anchored only horizontally and burn the last corner. what worked was to do an H anchor dry shrink with a glove. anchored into the clear glass on the sides and let little fingers pop up once installed they easily push down. so n e ways this one goes on my shiat list of cars i do not want to do on a saturday as the last car of the day
when i do these in llullu its pretty straight forward, no problem just carefull on the bottom and be careful about not burning the plastics on top. as far as CS goes, i leave a couple fingers on the side and just heat them down inside. i do that for all windows that i know are problem shrinks.
dang not looking forward to this one on monday!!
