Setting up my hvlp gun

Hi folks, well i am learning the hard way that how to paint. I have to sand back my panels and re-apply the colour coat as i seem to have very little gloss off the gun. Ie the paint has dried non glossy.

The bad result seems to be an error on my behalf, mostly due to me setting the compressor to only 40psi where as i have read that you should set the pressure to around 90 psi at the compressor???. Is this correct? if not what psi should i use at the compressor? At around 40psi i seem to get poor fan control, ie the fan seems to be very small even at full setting.

Anyone can confirm this i would appreciate it, i have read some articles on how to set up the gun but they talk about at the gun, i dont have a gauge at the gun, only an adjustment that i leave all the way open and simply go by the gauge on the compressor.

Basically you need a decent compressor system to properly run new HVLP. BTW congrants on your purchase..I hope it brings you much joy...

Here is the basic setup, and the way i do it every time...basically you are going to want to spray with a 6inch wide pattern aprox. 6in from the surface...I just use my hand to judge the pattern and distance...Use you thumb and pinky as if you were making a surfs up sign...(wow that was kinda 80s)...Now once you get that done just start spraying, and be sure to keep the gun at 90 degrees to what ever your spraying ;)

P.S. your probably moving the gun to fast which is giving it no shine...slow it down a bit and see if it helps...but the air might be a issue to this as well...

heres the dumb question, most paints today are clear coated if your just spraying a base coat and not topping it with a clear then yes you won't ever get a shine with just that.

now if your spraying a lacquer paint then you have to buff it for a glossy shine it should have some shine to it but the wet sand and buff with bring out the shine.

or Single Stage (no clear)

and available in Acrylic Enamel no probs!
