Full Version: Defrost Lines

Saskatcheman
Hey all,

I bought a '93 Nissan 240SX, and don't drive it in the winter, so there is no need for the defrost lines in the hatch window. Can they be removed, or am I going to have to find a hatch window without any?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really have little to no experience with glass... hmmmmmmm.gif

If they can be removed, can I do it myself and how???

Thanks!

You can scrape the conductive component material of the lines off, but the "orange" paint of the lines I believe are baked in orngbiggrin.gif

do they bother you that much? Please be aware that window may have the radio anteanna built into it. It looks like a defrost line or two. Nissan calls it their "diversafied antenna system. You go scraping those lines off, you will loose all radio signal. So don't mess with it.

I don't think back then they had them on that car(but a good point to mention for other vehicles for sure thumb.gif )

about 75 yards from my office is a import dyno and tuning facility that specializes in 240's, I bet they have at least 30 of them there at one time.I will investigate this a little further and get back widja.

I would NOT scrape. The orange will stay and there's not good reason for taking it off. I don't know about baked in, but it will require sanding or grinding to remove to the point of damaging glass. Hope this helps and welcome thumb.gif

These vehicles had diversity as an option. It will have a mast and a windshield (front or rear depending on model) antenna. These are not all, just in that year group.

Okay, so what you guys are saying is I'm screwed to try and get these off without damaging the window, or unfortunately leaving behind some paint or line on the window. wall.gif

So my only other option that I can think of is finding a relacement window that doesn't have these lines. Any body know if there was like a 240 quotes.gif California car quotes.gif that didn't have any lines on the windows?

And thanks a ton for all the help so far guys...
