The building next door to the restaurant TW and I had lunch at had wired glass, and there was one window that was tinted and cracked beyond belief! it was right above TW's head, heres the pic

I just thought it was funny that I saw it after we talked about your customer

Wow, what timing

My son and I went on a bid on a commercial property downtown. There are three windows, two 2 x 4 inside doors and one 4 x 8 arched above the door. All of this is wired glass facing southwest.

We explained to him why we were not going to bid on it. He asks why our competitor didn't say anything and gave him a bid with samples. Who was it we ask. He hands us the estimate with the guy's card on it.

Sir this guy does not install flat glass. As you can see on his business card all he does is auto and alarms. My suggestion, install a curtain to reduce your glare. Off we went

I have no idea what this guy plans on doing.

It is disturbing when someone who really does not know, bids out without thinking.

I'm sure it's been posted before, but what is the issue with wired glass??

Must not be common around here... I don't recall ever coming across it before... which could be that the place I used to work at never took any jobs dealing with it.

Imagaine what they have to do to cut wire glass to size? When wire glass is cut to size it is impossible to obtain unflawed edges. Theses edge flaws increase the likelihood of heat-induced cracking.

I've also heard speculation that the wire gets too hot or it heats unevenly, or the glass can't expand and contract because of the wire but I'm not convinced these are the reasons why it cracks. Pull a frame on some wireglass and look at the edges, you will be a believer after that.

So in flat glass the only film you can put on wireglass is clear film.

Point taken. I never thought about how they would make/cut wired glass... but that makes sense.

What about a round piece of wired glass with a silver 20?

Due to the size and it didn't get any sunlight, I'm sure its ok. Usually I'd stay away from the wired glass. Its just not worth it.
