Full Version: my opinion about yellow page advertising
In my opinion I think there are to ways to advertise in the yellow pages: either you go with just a little nothing ad or you go big and bold. Over the years I have tried several different layouts for my yellow page advertising and what I noticed that there was bearly a difference from the small nothing ad to the medium size ad (increased business by about 6% going from a small to a medium size ad). Two years ago I started doing a full page ad and have noticed a tremendous difference (38% increase especially in res/com). Obivously it does cost a little more though.
Here's my one of my yellow page ads:

Huper Optik's Drei is 71% TSER or V-Kool's VK40. Maybe he is talking about that?

for the past three years, they have got at least two spelling mistakes in ours, even though the proofs were ok
I had great pleasure in telling these greedy bastards (particularly the smartarse rep who thought his shite didn't stink) to go shove their effing pages.
That they were outdated dinosaurs that have raped and pillaged we customers for years always sticking it up us with increases at every turn. I only hope this non sale renewal meant his fiqures were effected negatively. Devil
My ad has been out for acouple of months and not 1 single call from it
just be careful with your ads. one phone book here put "purple windows gauranteed" instead of "NO purple windows gauranteed"
and our signed proof was correct. QUOTE (VIP tint + glass @ Dec 15 2006, 10:54 AM) [*]456490[/*] just be careful with your ads. one phone book here put "purple windows gauranteed" instead of "NO purple windows gauranteed" and our signed proof was correct.
yup we were thinkin about getting a lawyer but another phone book company, a good one, told us what to do and we got all our money back. that compnay printed 5 different books and we had 3 ads in each. one big book, and 4 little communtity ones. full page for tint, half page for auto glass, and 1/4 page for windshield repair. plus people still called of the ads. they just said "is that a typo, i hope you got compensated for that"
Our rep failed to include our address even though it was on the proof. How they did that I still have no idea...
Did the big add thing....not a great deal better ..I stay with a smaller one basic.
blahh blahh blahh Since 1974 (dad started in 74) personally installing since 89...but why say that!! Thats what I have got calls from...years in service rather than all the lifetime warranty crap. Most consumers know there is a warranty on almost every product or service. They want to feel comfortable with you , your skills , and your knowledge in the industry. Being to cocky will get your competitor work...believe me...it happens all the time. A resonable add with the right content is "I feel" the way to go. But people are different and sometimes swayed by the big flashy adds....and then some are not. I advertise in 9 phone books in different areas of the state. Research the areas, what type of residents live there..older vs. younger...money...jobs.... In one area there are million dollar shore homes..older crowd...not impressed by bling....in another younger proffessional crowd..likes bling...so an add thats in the middle of the spectrum works well for me..not to flashy..to the point.. just my QUOTE (VIP tint + glass @ Dec 15 2006, 02:54 PM) [*]456490[/*] just be careful with your ads. one phone book here put "purple windows gauranteed" instead of "NO purple windows gauranteed" and our signed proof was correct. Dayum!..I bet the tinter who's ad it was wasn't laughing though
sqweeged, very good advice
Hey...this biz has been great to me..Its a tricky thing advertising....so hopefully some of what I have seen will help ya'll!..and I dont claim to know everything...thats for sure... I mean Im still learning things everyday. And this site is full of info. We all know that this is a special industry, the thing is to make the consumers realize that its more than just sticking plastic on glass! Lots of tech stuff involved at times.
Being Professional is the only way to take this industry to even higher levels. I mean look back and see how far it has come!!! From Liquid Adhesive Installations to CDF'S !!! Non reflective to Sputtered And then some!! The tech is there...its up to us to present it to the consumers correctly, and profesionally!! So Cheers
So, "Business card sized" ads are kinda worthless?
QUOTE (Dean @ Mar 28 2007, 03:07 PM) [*]494250[/*] So, "Business card sized" ads are kinda worthless? I have scaled back from 1\2 page to a 3 column buis card sized ad. 1/2 page is around 750.00, new ad, 200.00. Under 3 different headings. I'm afraid NOT to be in there, but sure do think that 750.00 per month is waaaayyy too much for the return. I screwed up one year and missed the deadline, so I wasn't in the book that year. Almost killed the business.
I've been in my town for over twenty years and have never needed to do any big yellow page ads.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
