Full Version: 04 cadillac deville
Hey I really need some help on this. I dont normally get many cadillacs in my shop but today i did. Its a 2004 cadillac deville. I pulled it in the shop turned off the radio and began to prep the car. I removed the antenna off the rear window also. Did not reinstall it. I usually take to another winshield shop her so it gets put on and doesnt fall off. Delivered it back to the customer and just got a phone call from them and the radio does not work? What could have happened. Is it because the antenna is not installed. The radio seems to be working it just has no sound apparently. Thanks for the help
Could be
I'm guessing that it is because the antenna is not installed
Why don't you install them after you remove them. Clean off the old double stick tape and install new 3M tape on it and that should be fine. Their on-star is most likely not working either.
i have a family member just down the street who installs them for me no charge but couldnt get it in today. Im confused because a cd has no sound eaither so why would the antenna effect the cd audio
You got me there
Are you positive it worked before you pulled the car in?
yeah it was working and as soon as i pulled it in the shop the radio went out but i assumed it was from going inside the metal building. It does that on alot of cars especially thoses with XM radio. Im concerned about this issue did something get wet is there something about a cadillac deville you have to be extra careful with. . . factory amps speakers getting wet.
First thing I would do is install the antenna. Then check fuses. Then :p1ss and I don't know. I have been there before and don't like it.
One customer with an 83 C series benz told me that her door locks didn't work after I tinted her car. I gave her the number to a friend that is a locksmith. QUOTE (tintman237 @ Dec 5 2006, 09:17 PM) [*]453186[/*] Oh ya that little tiny antenna button thingy way to go tintman
i did unplug it and plugged it back in but even with it unplugged a cd should still work. the customer has the vehicle now so i cant inspect it myself but was hoping someone else has had this problem before
where are you from? I noticed you forgot to fill out your location.
from sterling colorado sorry im new to this site
Sounds fishy to me.....
Try turning the volume up....... Unless you got something wet. Maybe it will dry out and fix itself......
i know im wondering if they just dont know how to use the radio? they just bought the car so who knows. the only other thing i can think of is that it had these stupid sun shade things build onto the back door panels. I thought it was gonna be a pain to tint with the door panels on so i attempted to remove the panel. (normally i wouldnt do this) The door panel was a nasty one an wasnt gonna come off so i left it be and tinted it normally. Im not sure if there was a speaker in the rear door panel. but i thought maybe it got unplugged and if you unplug one speaker you kill the entire system. I sure hope this issue is not something i did. But i know i wont sleep at all tonight. I dont like upset customers

Calmly explain to them that you will be glad to check it out and see if had anything to do with what you did..... After all chit happens and usually at an inopportune time.... Now get some sleep..... ![]() Is it either one of these radios?????
IIRC the amplifiers are located under the rear deck in those. they probably got wet and need to dry out. perhaps blew a fuse.
as for the antenna, i just heat the old tape with a heat gun and stick it back on
i guess ill wait and see if thats what it is.
do you know where the fuses are?? are they in the fuse panel or on the amps under the deck lid?

Okay you tinted it...First off lets reinstall the antenna..IF that solves the problem..Great, if not...you have eliminated that out of the equation....Next, if the speakers dont play anything...and i mean nothing even when a cd is being played then..You eathier blew a fuse, or soaked the back deck and toasted a factory amp...Now mind you, sometimes these things happen....but i hav esoaked a few decks in my day and everything has been okay..even in caddys....
When you get the car again just check everyhting...Narrow down everything you did and rule out what could be the problem...and a multi Meter..they come in handy if you know how to use it ;)
same here tinted thousands and thousands and never had a problem like this? I have found a replacement amp for cheap if thats the issue. If i have no sound i know it has to have something to do with the amp not turning on. hopefully its a fuse or maybe it will dry out like the other guy said. I was looking on my manufacturers tech site and found no bulletins on this issue thanks alot. I will let everyone know the outcome for future ref.
If anyone else knows anything please respond!
Not that this is the same, but I tinted a Cavalier once, where the customer had installed their own subs/amps in the trunk. Now, I don't make it a habit to look through customers' cars, so I didn't know it was even in there. They called a couple days later saying that I had fried their amp because of the water. I try explaining to them that I was unaware it was even there, so I won't accept any fault. I go through the "you have to use water to install the film, and yes, things get wet" speech, but she was just being a royal PITA.
So, I find out a few days later that she ended up taking it to one of the local stereo shops to have them look at it. She told the stereo shop how I competely screwed up her amp, and she wanted them to prove it was my fault. Of course, I know the owner of said stereo shop, so he filled me in on what was going on. It ended up being a blown fuse under the hood. The reason for the blown fuse? When her boyfriend installed the amp, he ran the power wire through the fender and it shorted out on the metal. I'm still waiting for the customer to call and apologize. Should I continue holding my breath?
get electrian

just like other people noted, antenna is for on star. Get the car back in your shop and pull the panels in the trunk to see if you got the amp wet? Either needs to dry out or you fried it. Those babies are expensive though. good luck.
If the stereo is a Bose the amp would be in the trunk and could have possible burnt out the system, if it's not a Bose system it would be something else. Some cadillacs have another amp under the center console, check that one too if it has it. Start checking ebay, it's your best chance for finding the amp or head unit at a reasonable price or strip the back window and take it to the dealer and say it's defective
