Custom Search

Tom Cat
The owner of the shop has a lofty goal of almost doubling our profits. I am stuck with trying to figure out how to do this. dunno.gif

We don't really do alot of dealer cars, and would like to steer clear of that mess, but I know That there is definitely good money to be had. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. thumb.gif

sweat.gif Stear clear of dealer work? Right now dealer work makes up probably 70% of my business. I love the dealer work!!! They are sooooooooo much easier to deal with than the walk-in clients. No dealing with the "what shade should I put on....what color should i use....what would you do????" If I had a choice, I think I would rather do dealer work exlclusively! But that's just my humble opinion eyebrows.gif

As far as doubling profits....just double your price! easy!! sweat.gif

Good point. Dealerships used to be the bread and butter of the shop I used to work at. The only problem is that the majority of dealers around my part of Town aren't really high volume places. They are more worried about getting the car out of the door, so they don't even try to sell accessories.
Mr paladin
Bottem line is if you want to double yor profit you need to do what ever it takes,do dealer cars, do anyone that is willing to pay for your services, come in early, leave late, work weekends orngbiggrin.gif

the dealership accounts that you want to do are the ones that want to tint either all cars or at least all the trucks and suv's that dont come factory. the dealership accounts that just bring a car when a customer wants it are bad. but if they tell you to just come by when you have time and pick up a couple of cars are great. if you're good with talking to people you can convince the manager to tint all the rear sections of every car on their lot.

however i dont hardly do any dealerships anymore, we just tint their workers cars, and they refer their customers to us.

the easiest way to increase business is to do the best work that can be done, and be very informative and friendly to your customers. dont let thing slide, just redo it. a customer that comes back with a complaint isnt that happy even if you fix or replace it. its better to get it all done right the first time around. and talk to your customers, dont just leave them chillin in your lobby

Great advice. I used to do tons of dealer cars, but even once I stopped working for them, I would get calls from them on personal deals. Ipersonally believe that customer service is #1. I don't mind spending an extra few minutes explaining what they are going to get. I would rather do that than have a customer come back all mad because I didn't make sure they understood what they just purchased.

Sponsor a Little League Baseball Team.
If not in your local Chamber of Commerce, join.
Join a Bowling Team. It is handicap, so a low average is not bad, gives the team more pins.
Just a few ideas to get more exposure for the Business.

give the dealer some commision to send all clients direct to you, if they are not interested in selling accessories icon_confused.gif thumb.gif

Or do what one Business in my Bowling League one year, they Sponsored my entire Team, paid all fees for the year, and if we won the League Championship, we would get $100 each. Only stipulation, we had to wear a shirt with the business name on the back each week, and they paid for the shirts.
It was written off as Advertising.

Have you actually tried this?? It sounds like it could be a great idea. Do you approach the service consultants, or go straight to the GM? icon_confused.gif

Depends on your dealership. Some of mine...the individual saleman makes the deal, in which case he is the man that gets looked after, most times though its the service guys. I dont usually give commision...but the guy who calls me gets well looked after when he wants some of his own stuff done.
Tom Cat
hmmmmmmm.gif Do salesman really have the decision on whether they sell the item or the dealer does, or Would it be more like a suggestion on the salesmans part? I know that in the past I have had a few salesmen that ended up calling me directly for their customers or friends, I just didn't want to burn the bridges with the dealerships.
one slick tinter
like i said...depends on the dealership. Most of the salesmen that i deal with directly are the top salesman at the dealership. That may make a difference. Also...if its getting "thrown in" on the deal or not. dunno.gif Then again....maybe we have some really really laid back dealerships up here in the boondocks of eastern canada, and they dont care who calls me...just as long as the thing gets tinted!! Either way, as long as they are callin me...i aint gonna complain!! yahoo.gif

Ihave used this method on parts shops, glaziers, architect's etc my dealers have there own sales people selling it but with the other sites it works and tinting there cars and putting small sign for a year or so is a cheap way to advertise, IMHO thumb.gif

Hire Hooters Girls to stand in front of your business holding up signs for traffic to see !
Tom Cat
I don't think the Hooters girls would work right now, cuz they would be wearing big ass coats. DAMN SNOW!!!

Give some dealers a chance..Sure they probably wont be as thankful but they will send a but load of stuff your way...Another way to gain some more business is to approach body shops/auto collision places..They are always replacing a window here and a window there and they need it matched to the other windows that werent replaced.

Give that a shot, it works well for me..Cause when i need some paint and body work done i get hella good deals...;)

Chamber of Commerce wouldn't be bad, but sponsoring a little league team specifically for the purpose of drumming up alot of business is crap. Sure, you get some, put it rarely pays for it's self. I sponsor teams as well, but not for the purpose of making any money off of it....I do it because it keeps the kids involved in "good things" and they can have nice equipment and uniforms and feel proud to take the field/court and be a part of a team.

Bowling leagues aren't big money winners either in most cases....but they are sure fun as hell!!!!

Granted, big jobs can come from the most unlikely places, but I concentrate my advertising efforts in more concrete areas that are consistent money winners.

I was a Llu Llu dealer for 15yrs stuck in the rut of $- to $- per car. Picked up F1 lined and learned how to SELL window film and not price and warranty. You are human and physically can only do a certain amount of cars per day. Think about it, $- per car $- material you make $- per car. Upsale, $- per car $- material. Profit $- per car times 5-6-7 cars per day. It took me 5 years but I did double my business. Contact if you want more idea's

That's good advice. beer.gif I know that when I was doing mobile work, those 1 window jobs here and there were great to kill time until your next appointment. Did you get well enough established to have a decent area to work in ?? That was my shops biggest problem, especially when doing paint protection film.

thumb.gif That makes alot of sense. My big problem is that this guy expects it to happen within a year. Already thorugh January and we didn't make jack this month with all of the freezing weather and snow storms. I think that being patient while you build up half a mill worth of clientele is pretty damn important. You can't squeeze blood from a turnip after all...
