Full Version: Hoofin' it!

I'm thinking about getting doorhangers and hoofing it around the residential areas as a means to introduce myself and the window tinting division. Have any of you tried this, if so, was it worth the expense of printing, and the time spent putting the hangers on the doors?

Thanks! beer.gif

We did door hangers once, with minimal success. Make sure you know where you can and can't hang flyers, etc. We got a call from the city telling us we couldn't do it anymore. However, If you don't have any business coming in the doors, this could work for you. Good luck!

Been there done that. And plan to do it again starting in March.

Response was ok.. not great, but not nothing. Paid for the printing... as for time - I walked one area. Took me like 3 hours to cover the whole place.. in the dead of heat in the summer. I thought I was going to die. lol After that I borrow a bike and used that. MUCH faster and still gives ya some good exercise. smile22.gif

We tried it one time and got a little bit of exposure. No business but some exposure.

I do door knockers all the time, and after every home I hang up a few on each side on the street. Sometimes it works, sometimes they don't!

If you're going to shoe leather for sales ops and have the guts, ambition and personality for cold calling, don't waste it on door hangers. Try these alternatives:

- Look into Chamber of Commerce membership and/or ask the organization for your area if they hold businees networking luncheons or breakfasts. Get active in them, rub elbows, etc., if they do.

- Look into other area business networking activity.

- Call on Property management firms

- Call on Energy management firms

- Call on Real Estate Investment firms (some are known as 'Flippers', as in Flip this House)

- Remodelers

- Call on all local architectural glass companies

- Call on Window treatment companies (if you are not already in it too)

- Call on Interior design firms

- Call on Furniture stores

- Call on Home/Business security firms.

- Call on local Homeowner insurance agencies

- Call on Heat & Cooling firms

- New home builders

- Any type homeowner's association

Some of these I did when I was selling and installing in So. Florida and it really turns the fire up a notch over time. You have to keep at it, keep your mug in front of those who show interest and those that don't.

Grease their palms in some way or another even if it doesn't amount to cash exchanges as a finders fee.

You seem to be the opposite of an order taker (like waiting tables) who waits for the client to come to them. A Salesperson doesn't wait, they go after their sales.

Don't know if you do cars or not but here's a motivating story:

I was visiting a shop in Denver a few years ago, mostly auto tint, and while there one of the guys said to the boss, 'Hey boss, things are slow, I'm going out'. I didn't think a thing of it until this same person returned an hour or so later... he had gone out trolling and returned with a commitment of 15 cars from one local dealership and needed another driver.

Good luck... thumb.gif

Yeah, the BNI groups I used to go to were great for getting leads and I only had to go to one meeting a week; although that one meeting was always on Wednesday morning at 7am, but I got a free breakfast.. thumb.gif

The best way to use your time efficiently with door hangers is to canvas a neighborhood when you are done with a residential job, put a sign in the yard for a week or so when your finished. The local chamber of commerce is huge....Huge! Did I say Huge? Usually 98% of all the businesses in that particular area are members and they prefer to use other members services than someone they dont know. It cost me $149 to join mine, but the benefits and networking has been invaluable. Also go to the city and find where they are revitalizing it with new hip luxury apartments or condos. Talk to the property manager... Those buildings usually have alot of windows with alot of sun blasting them beach.gif

My super is already in one of the local BNI's - I gotta check out more of the organizations once I get settled. Moved this weekend and fibrogirl needs to rest up a bit, recharge, and then get back out there. In the meantime, it's cold-call city.

Yesterday I joined a business networking group for home related business. Meaning only members that do business or service for residential home ownners or small business's.

There is only allowed one type of service in the group so there could not be two tinters from different companies or two real-estate agents or two carpet cleaners per say, unless they are on the same team or from the same Co woking directly with each other.

My friend is a high-end sucessful real-estate agent and has been with them for 8 years now. He told me it was the best thing he's ever done.

Wish me luck dudes and dude-ets... lol
