Ford Fusion/Lincoln Zephyr Quarter Glass

I hate not tinting the whole glass on vehicles like this one and the Accord, so I take out the glass whenever necessary. However, it took 4 of them to figure out how the glass comes out. For those who remove glass, here's how to do it:

Like most vehicles, there's a top screw on the divider between the quarter and rolldown:



Then, after rolling down the window and removing the door panel, remove the screw behind this plug:


Next, remove the screw on the inside of the door closest to the front of the car. This holds the outside trim in place.


Next, CAREFULLY pry the outside trim up from the front edge first and remove it. This allows you to pull the quarter glass out with the rubber gasket.


Now, you can remove the glass from the gasket and tint it, then replace and reverse the removal process!

that quarter glass moulding is so loose,you can slip it right in.i sometimes trim the tip of the moulding that is touching the glass about a hair and it slips right in.

It's true that you can slip the film up into the molding, but the problem is cleaning it properly and squeegeeing it properly. taking out the glass is a guaranteed high quality finish.

I think it's something you can offer as an option and charge more for.

HONDA/ACURA yes can charge more, those cars above and Mec/Milan good luck getting a dollar extra, may as well be a Fairmont

I know it's not one most people are gonna use everyday, but sometimes little things help. The fusion is one of the easiest cars out there now with the exception of the quarter windows. With the right method, you can alleviate that issue.

But how long does this take you to do R/R ?

It took me about ten minutes to take them out (but it was my firstr time) the belt moulding did not want come loose. But I did the quarters first let them sit out in the sun for awhile. then put them back in then did the rest of the car. I had the car for the whole day. It's not as hard as the Honda's I just like to make sure the film is set real good before re-installing the glass.

This sure looks like a good for TOTW!

did my first one last week.JT is right. when I saw how loose it was, I hosed the wizz out of it and scraped it w/ my olfa. set it a couple minutes while I did the door, and finished it with a jizzler. perfection without the risk and hassle of disassembly!

That's pretty much how all those type of windows come out.....

no other car I've done requires the outside trim to be removed. It wasn't 'til I figured that out that I could get the window out of the door.

I tried this just now but i cant get the outer belt moulding to come off, is there a tip besides carefully remove it...

Thats a great tip, but i dont see the point...In the time it took to pull the door an take all the hardware out, with out damaging the car. You could have tinted that that door and halfway though your next....

I dunno, time is money...You can get a professional quality finish, with out all that unnecessary work.

good tip you lost my interest in doing this as soon as you have to take the door panel off to...do you have to remove the door panel on the new accords too? i've mildly attempted to take the glass out on the hondas but get the top screw out and try to pull rubbers but no go

I dont remove the glass on these, I slip the film past the gasket.



And I use glue on the matrix also
