Full Version: 03 Honda Accord
I tinted an accord yesterday and had something happen that ive never seen b4. Everything went fine up until the drivers window. I put the top in and had it locked down and heated it b4 i rolled the window up and as soon as i rolled it up the film buckled at one spot on top and trashed the whole piece. So i check the frame for obstructions where the top of the window goes into and everything looks fine so i figure maybe it was me, second piece does the exact same thing, now im gettin pizzed
what part of the glass was catching? top at the back of the door? I had one catch there once....just needed a bit more heat, and i "lubed" the gasket up good with straight J&J before putting it up.
It was catching at the top about 7 inches from the left side, i heated the chiat out of it, film was definately locked down tight b4 i rolled it up. Soap in the gasket wouldve been an idea though.
I remember doing older Accords that would do this quite a bit. Sometimes heating the corners like you did worked, sometimes just pressing on the glass a very small bit while rolling up the window worked as it wouldn't rub up against that gasket much when rolling it up and allowed it to sit fine. However, sometimes we'd get cars back where even after 1 week of not rolling the window down, the gasket was SO tight that it would rub the film off.
What we suggested is either A) Keep the gasket lubed up with something or B) get new gaskets. If heating and pressing on the glass during rolling up the window didn't help or the car came back to us a week or so later with the film peeling from those edges, that's all you can advise them to do, unfortunately. I had a '93 Accord years ago and it did this a lot. I left the windows up for 1 week straight in 90+ degree weather and after another week of rolling the windows up and down, it would start to peel back on the edge near the rear view mirrors. I kept it lubed up until I decided to just buy new gaskets for the car since we used the car to demonstrate our work to customers. After I bought new gaskets it was golden!
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
