does the plotters pay off

i was just wondering if buying a plotter would pay off in my situation doing window tint, selling wheels and tires, car audio and car and truck accesories. we also build custom speaker enclosures. but anyways if i spend a couple thousand on a good used plotter and so much for the vinyl and stuff about how long do u think it would be before it paid for itself.

B, Just a thought, but if you used it for tint, it would probably cut your time down a little. I guess that would make a little more time to either stack cars during the busy months, or get to other projects. That's assuming, of course, that the software makes cuts as good as they say, and you don't have to "clean up" behind it. I'd be interested to see the cuts it makes for a tint job.

PS- I was down your way the other day and ran that river that you mentioned...The Savage. The water was up a little and it was AWESOME. I have pics of icicles forming on the front of my helmet! It was kinda neat knowing that I was running the same river that a world competition was held on!

been tinting for 30 years and finally bought a plotter last aug. and love it. It has beenn my experiance that most of the patterns are pretty good and I would say that it save sboth time and tint.
Wish I had bought it 15 years ago

You should get your money back quickly by just doing decals. With your add-on products you should be able to sell a ton of stickers. Decals and auto accessories go hand in hand.

I am thinking it could save time and tint too, i am getting busier every day and i can see this summer being out of control. I really don't want to train another tinter from my area just to have them be my competition in a few years, as it always seems to work out this way. That is why i am thinking of getting a plotter and tinting program, if it would allow me to do one more car a day it would be worth it, but i have read to many times about the patterns being off and that you have to go back and clean them up to make them usable, i don't have time for that Bs so i am still undecided.

Yo Bryan, wassup, Savage river can be a hell of a place from what i hear, u got bigger gonads than me brother, i'll ride my sport bike 160 mph but you won't catch me in a kayac for nothin, drownin don't seem like much fun to me poking_someone_in_the_eye.gif I'm glad you had fun beer.gif
TINTDESIGNZ
it depends on your set up-I have both a vinyl plotter and a tint plotter.I love my tint plotter -however i find it a pain in the azz to stop tinting to talk to someone about a $20 sticker! It attracts kids and tire kickers! I'd rather be on my stool tinting all day and not be bothered! Want to buy a sign shop? eyebrows.gif

Ive been using tinttek 20/20 for several years...Probably started usng it back in 2001. I love it, for the most part it hast jsut about every car you could think of...Their are still theos select vent window trucks and odd ball cars that you are better off hand cutting...But it has saved me time and tint....THe program is updated monthly and they are always perfecting old patterns if they need a little adjusting...

Anyways..I belive you wouldnt have a problem having the maching pay for itself in no time...With the amount of buisness you can pick up.....

It was trial and error for me. hmmmmmmm.gif

I suggest a 30 degree blade and test cutting until you work out the problem...

Depending on the plotter, it should have a test cut feature that will cut a small
pattern, so you can figure out your pressure and speed. twocents.gif
autoimage
It's a US Cutter using computer cut from Berkart and it cuts very inconsistant. It's a new plotter but an off brand.
autoimage
It has a test feature and I can get a nice cut with that but when you go big thats when I have problems.
TINTDESIGNZ
When you say have problems-do you mean it cuts all the way thru in some spots -then in other spots it doesnt cut deep enough? Tryin to help! hmmmmmmm.gif

The teflon strip is OK I've only run about 40' through the plotter.

how far out through the holder is your blade?

do you feel ANY rough areas on the cutting strip?

what is the angle of your blade used to cut vinyl?

just a few things to check other then the program settings.

That does no mean anything! You could have destroyed that strip on the first cut. If you have one slight groove in that strip it is ruined. The plotter is so senssitve to the amount of pressure that a scratch in that strip, could mean the worst. Well maybe not a scratch, but it is easy to mess it up with too much pressure.
pierce8468
HMM are you using dyed film, and is running across a table or falling down into a catch?

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
