Just got i of these in today --- Way to easy , had to add felt to all the doors other than that it's a 45 min car.
VIP tint + glass
yes another car to the felt list
Monique
Yes it is an easy car as I did one today. HOWEVER, this car has a second 'seal' of sorts about 3 inches below the rub strip. It's a strong plastic that sits right on the glass. When I rolled my first back window down a couple inches there was a loud 'pop' as that plastic hit the edge of the film and of course peeled it right off. I asked the customer to not roll the windows down for 1 week! This is the same problem I spoke of not long ago on a new Outlander, in which the '08 Lancer and upcoming Evo X are based on. I'm foreseeing a problem area here...

Please elaborate "Add felt"
wicked r1
the door glasses have a hard plastic that sit against the glass , so you"ll have to add felt to these or they will scratch the p1ss out of the film , or you can cut the top one out , Ive done it both ways , no popping if you cut it out

Done both, pull door panels off they come off easy 5 mins each one. Make tint a little deeper, felt and you'll have no problems. IMO you never want a car coming back for peeling windows - its worth the extra time. beer.gif

Iuave done a couple of new outlanders but got caught short without the felt...I pulled the panels but those suckers may come back...if so I will felt them.

All future installs get the felt

Are we referring to the current 4 door Lancer that is the same as the EVO 9?

I did a current model one 2 weeks a go that didn't require felt. hmmmmmmm.gif
Got a pic?

Hey Devil,

What I'm talkking about is not the evo - its the bog standard mode and the new outlander. From memory I think its just the rear doors which need felting - all need felting on outy. Same is true on new BMW 3 series the interior seal that rests against the window has two "blades" on the front doors both are felted on the rear doors just one of the is. This is also true on 1 series - we felt them as they scratch the tint.

I wouldn't worry they are easy cars, you're not missing much sweat.gif

more felt means more $$$. Just did a fully loaded Lancer with Nano film. Great step up for a good looking less expensive car. I hope the Moleskins hold up in that tight door.

I Tinted an 08 Lancer about a month ago and installed felt on the gaskets and my customer is still complaining that the film is scratched. Is there rub guides lower in the door or any other reason why they are scratching
ClassOnGlass

This one is far from a pita, one of the best cars to start a day with if you ask me
Monique
Easiest thing to do is remove the door panels, with the window down, remove the rubstrip off the top the the door and 'surgically' remove the 2nd rubstrip. Then tint as usual. In fact, Mitsu dealers have a 'TSB' (technical service bulletin) NOT to tint the windows of 2008 Outlanders, Lancers and Evolution X's. I do between 10-15 a month. NO scratching. It helps that my 'work' vehicle is an Evo!

i have done 3 and two have returned.....all were felted and the felt didnt stick to the mouldings on a couple of the windows.....and they were preped well....also one had scratches on the glass and the felt was still in position....these cars suck....and just for that reason....they are an easy tint....WTF how cheap can the manufactures get.......im going to the salvage yard soon to see if an 07 will fit....when i get a chance to .....they are the same length from 07 to 08 on the front....the backs are a bit different lenght but can be trimed to fit the 08 as long as then fit the door the same......ill post if i get one to work.....they suck.....so felt them but dont think that will keep you from seeing one anyway....
tintman Pa
how about this....the 08 lancers use both felt and non felt mouldings.....the first ones that cameout had no felt the later ones do....i think they run about 25 buck a moulding.....i have a customer trying to get them under warranty before i fix his scratches......

This tip was given to me by the tech in charge of interiors at the local Mitsu dealer and I now employ it on every 08/09 Lancer, Evolution and Outlander. With the window down, remove the door panel. Then remove the rub strip at the base of the window. It has 2 rubber 'blades' on the inside, facing the glass. With your Olfa knife, cut the lower strip off at the base. Tint as usual and replace panel. Easy, no felting required. I've done over 20 this way and have had none come back with scratches, including 3 owned by dealer employees, who report every little thing!

Has anyone noticed the windshield does not have the AS1 mark on the windshield. Utah state law strip is to the AS1 mark.

now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
