I have this guy that tints 3 of my cars. But for my last car, which is an Acura Legend has round corners in the rear window.
He had to do alot of shrinking for that on this metallic tint. He told me it's pure metallic. After he was done, there were hologramic look to the section he had to do the shrinking!
It's only noticable when the sun is out, which reflects off those spots, and it's REALLY noticable.
He told me that it is because metallic tint causes warps like that when you have to shrink excessively.
It's really annoying because there's patches of holograms at the edges and corners of my rear window!! I tried pressing it down with my fingers to see if maybe it's lifted under, but it's not. It seems as of the metal discolored with too much heat or shrinking??

But hey.... stranger things have happened

I used Sungard Endurance film when I started and it would do this effect. They called it "ghosting" and it is simply that the metal is grouping up where he shrinks it hardest.
Nothing much to be done except to split the window in multiple pieces and make for less to shrink. Or use a film that is not all metal....

Thanks for the response... I kinda thought that's what was happening, but didn't know for sure.
Sigh.... i guess I have to live with it.... for now.

Sigh.... i guess I have to live with it.... for now. Dude just tell the tinter your not feelin the hologram effect, and see if he can re-do it in a non-metal film for a good deal.... If it was your third car with me, I know Id be more than happy to fix it.

Well, he stripped my tint for free since the tint I had before was non-metallic. After 4 years, it turned purple, and faded. So I wanted to get 100% metallic this time so this won't happen again... so I think I have no choice. Shrug?

good quality tint should not turn purple. Llumar and many others now offer a "no color change" warranty.
As far as the squiggles on the tint, I once told a customer that it was a custom thing.....no two cars will ever be exactly the same!

Is Llumar warranty on their dye tint also? The tinter guy told me all tints with dye will always change color. hmm...

yes, he's right in a sence. Regular bottom of the barrel dyed film will change. Pay the extra$$ and go color stable that comes with a no-fade warranty. He should carry a non-metal film of this level. And then if it goes the way of Barney....bring that hoe back and get it re-done for free under warranty.

Mid coast is right, there are a hand full of MFG. that have a color stable non fading film as far as it will not turn purple I can only atest to 1 film that I have personally used, the rest I can't vouch for.

Damn! He told me that only metallic film will not change color, and everything else that is non-metallic will change color.
The reason why I have confidence in him was because he's been tinting since he was 14 years old, and he's now 32 or something. He has two shops opened and says he's going to get about 15 more shops.
So I'm like... kicking myself knowing that he jipped me.
The money wasn't the problem. I told him I want charcoal with no fade. He said only way to go with no fading is metals. He said the film he bought was $200, which covers two cars. Is that cheap priced tint?

lildetails is right, break up teh areas to be tinted and DRY shrink.......that way it is spread outover a large area and nothing is getting pinned down to a small little area. As far as warranties go, Llumar atr (mettalized) is lifetime warranty AS well as the AT dyed line. Lifetime warranty for that as well, which also just got bumped up to a 1.5mil film to be equal with the existing ATR line, so it wil be easier to work with, cheaper and not have a mild "reflective" look
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
