Lot's of visits, not so many phone calls...

So, I'm advertising online right now. I've been advertising with a company for a little over 1 week and I've managed to accumulate $350 worth of "visits" to my websites. However, I've only managed to get about 10 phone calls. 254 visits and 10 phone calls. Only 2 of them turned into actual jobs. An M35 and 2 front roll-ups.

For those of you that are advertising only, is this typical? I know I'm just starting out but I was hoping I'd get more phone calls with as much as I'm spending here... I mean, if this continues I'll continuously be at a lost of $100 or so a week. I can't go to the month's end and say "Great, I managed to lose $400 again." haha

Are you getting more calls from the yellowpages.com if you advertise online vs doing something like online ads or Citysearch? Any suggestions to at least get more phone calls? I don't think it's my website... Out of the 10 people I did talk to, 5 of them brought up my website and mentioned how they liked it so much... So, I don't think that's the problem. Or maybe there is a missing element on it?

Any ideas?

advertising is sketchy man...it's only been a week so i'd give it more time have you tryed the dancing monkey on the street corner yet?

yahoo and google can target your markets so that you don't advertise to the wolrd and get charged for it. I am sure that there are not 254 folks looking for tint in your town in one week, a the same site(s)

I'm advertising with google and doing it by city... That's why I'm curious... I'm going to have to come out of pocket to pay this bill so far. :( I'm not even breaking even... far from it.

I can try Yahoo too... I'm just up to $450 now and I've only done $280 in work!
