shrinking over strut holes

i've been doing this forever and never thought about sharing it. you know when youre shrinking a backglass with struts that need to be removed and there is the hole that sometimes messes up your shrinking; say matrix, escape, older crv. you know one you actually have to shrink. what i do is i take a small scrap tint and stick it over holes so when you shrink over that spot it has surface to actually lay down. so if you need to go over that area again it wont burn a hole in the tint. plus its easier to smooth out over that area.

i dont know how many already do this but it should help a few.

it works on the lancer evo as well after you remove the wiper

i find it very necesary on the really large holes in order to get the film around the whole hole nice. basically the lancer evo and the wiper hole on the older crv's. but i do it to all holes just in case. works well for me and all you have to do is picka scrap off the floor or off your peeler

You remove the entire rear wiper facility on those?

I can give a tip on that... Just remove the wiper and the top plate. The top (outside) gasket is bigger than the bottom (inside). So, all you need to do is get your olfa and trace around the edge of the inside gasket like you're cutting out a rear-view mirror holder. Then, shrink the film, slap it in. The film should fit nicely around that inner gasket if you trimmed properly and accurately. So, maybe a thin hairline light gap right now... However, when you put that top gasket on, absolutely no light gap at all due to it being about 1/8" larger all around than that inner gasket.

I own an Evo and have done the back glass on that thing many times just trying out new films, plus I'm a member of a local Evo club and I do all the Evo's in it, so many, many Evo's have been done and I have done this on all of them. Saves the time of removing that entire wiper facility.

Yeah, that's what I did on the one I tinted. Just removed the wiper arm and that little plate and bam. I didn't even have to shrink over it.
