Rear Deck of a '97 Cavalier

Does the rear deck come out, or does the third brake light come out to tint the whole window? The first time I tinted it awhile back, I did it in strips (don't tell anyone) and I cut around the light. It looks ghetto as hell. Trying to be as professional as possible now. A perfectionist...if you will.

I think you have to pull the deck on that one to get behind it . Pull the back seat and trim panels by the B/G but be careful with the clips on the trim the plastic will break if you get rough with it . Or if you get a bulldozer squeegee you dont have to pull the deck .

2 door or 4 door?

four

yeah....ya gotta pull those panels by the BG that go up over the back door. been a while so im trying to remember...the plastic on the sides behind the seat....you pull the plastic plug out then they pull out sidways (or is that the 2 door? no....i think the 4 door has them too.) if it has the baby seat anchor thingys, you will have to pull the plastic around them out then the panel pulls right out. sometimes it pulls hard because some of the fibers get stuck to the urathane...give them a tug though and it should come. then the light just slides out...no screws if i member right. thumb.gif hope that helps....clear as mud? beer.gif

Yup, what he said. Drop the back of the rear seat, remove two round flat clips that hold the plastic edge thingies remove those, remove the baby seat plastic things, they just pop up easily then slide the rear deck out. If the carpet seems to be stuck to the urethane then use your olfa with your olfacon.gif blade slid out quite a bit and carefully reach over the top of the deck and run the blade along the stuck edge. CAREFULLY cut the stuck fibers then pull the deck out. The brake light then slides towards you, unplug it and get it out of the way and tint away! thumb.gif

With the 2 drs , the 2 plastic panels come out, however with the 4 dr, they don't .

Something that wasn't mentioned so I'll stress it you, with the 4 dr , you have to be careful not to break the plastic seat belt guides on each side of the deck..if your not careful, it can easily happen..other than that, it's a 1 minute removal procedure orngbiggrin.gif

If you put one hand on the rear deck and push down a little and bulldozer in the other you can get behind the third brake light without removal of the rear hat deck. Same thing one the 98'ish grand prix's with the molded rear deck\Brake light works like a charm no need to remove the deck! I am serious it works 95% of the time. I have had to remove hat decks anyways but I always try not to.

A tinter that came to my shop from Kentucky with Jack from Global said no way then I was able to actually show him on a Grand Prix and my bestfriend owns a cavalier 96' and I did not remove the hat deck beer.gif

thumb.gif So you are going to think i am full of 5hit but I have a cavy in my shop now and you are right blade a bulldozer dont do anything. That brake light is tight against the glass guess I just got lucky on my buddy's. I am positive this technique works on the grand prix's though

told ya so spit.gif

bingo.gif on the dozer...,but even if it DID work on that car..the deck/light removal is so fast why fight with a dozer and felt of the deck when you can do a pro clean install with 5 extra minutes spent on the car.

Sometimes every minute shouldn't count on a car IMO dunno.gif

Cavy matrix are nothing.....but easy.....

I pull the deck myself and the others have the way down.

I just did one a few days ago, the only way a bulldozer will go behind there is if the back deck has already been raped and pillaged out once already, mabye putting speakers in or something, then the deck is loose enough to push down to get a dozer behind the light trust.gif beer.gif

You are right, the only way it should count is in a tint off dunno.gif

anyone have any trouble shrinking the back glass? I always have trouble on the bottom corners, and getting tint to lay down on the dot matrix at the top. so I've had to two piece them after a failed one piece attempt.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
