Valet 712T Installation

I've decided to try my luck out with a DIY project of installing automatic locks in my 97 F-150. I've already installed the actuators that have been tested to work, and there is success when I put them on the battery, lock and unlock. However, it seems like I'm having trouble getting power to the Valet system itself. I'm not a genius when it comes to wiring diagrams, but I ran a line straight from the positive terminal to the system and still don't seem to be having luck getting the system to work on the actuators. Any advice short of taking it to someone else would be a great help.

If I am reading the install guide correct.. looks like from the 712T:

Grn/Blk - to one actuator wire
Vio/Blk - to +12v constant
Blu/Blk - to other actuator wire
Vio - to +12v constant

should work... there is a white/blk wire that 'may' need to go to ground for the actuator wires to rest at ground but the instructions are very vague about what that wire does... I DO NOT suggest hooking it to ground without eithers metering what that wire does or consulting a professional who can.... also.. be sure to fuse the Vio/Blk and Vio wires to avoid burning anything up.

Turns out yes, in fact, the "extra" wire needed to be grounded. Thanks for the help!

Glad we could help!

Well, ya know...that was only one part of it, haha. I still have to figure out which wires go to the horn and lights, not to mention what surprises lie in wait for me there.

usually on the directed stuff there's a brown wire for horn, and i believe the factory location of the horn wire is in a 4 pin plug to the right of the steering column.... USE A METER to test for this wire... it's usually dark blue. for parking lights, double check the polarity of your valet piece... sometimes they're selectable for either positive or negative. if it's positive you can catch the brown wire at the electric brake controller plug which is a grey plug, w/ 6 pins off to the right of the dash opening and has nothing connected to it, other wires in the same plug will be blue, green, white, and red. the brown one is parking lights.. don't attempt to take out your light switch, it can break easily... ford has a dumb design for removal inot.gif. if your valet piece is negative output only for parking lights you'll need to build a relay.

can someone tell me what wire on the valet 712t to use to make it open the trunk on a ford crown vic. I tried using the red/white wire and tapping into the push button switch (trunk release) on the dash.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
