Full Version: first dry adhesives

Hey,

I wanted to rant and praise both.....for the last 8 years I have been doing window tinting as my sole living. I started doing flat glass 8 years ago. Until last month I had not used any flat glass films other than Sungards with DPS! I recently have used Johnson, Madico, and Suntek flat glass films. I also just learned a few months ago about reverse rolling flat glass films and dropping it.

I had a conversation with my old Sungard sales rep and I asked him why they didn't make a dry adhesive. He proceeded to tell me that they did and it was the DPS...I posted about that before....anyway, I tried back rolling some of the DPS and it did work....sort of....but now that I have actually used some dry adhesives I don't ever want to go back.

Getting the thick goop that is the DPS coating to look right with just a wetting of the window and a drop roll is not as easy......

Anyway, HEY CAPT BILL! tell me why Sungard doesn't make a dry adhesive? I spent so many hours doing so much more work than I had to and needing an extra hand to hold the film while I peeled the liner and wet it.....I just can't imagine why you don't make a dry adhesive.....get rid of the DPS crutch and make a real flat glass film.....

Anyway... krazy.gif krazy.gif krazy.gif

nice post of your experience there mate.

but let it be known this post is not bashing a specific company. its just an experience you had. I just love Hanita's dry adhesive films. they're great to work with thumb.gif

not bashing the company.....just questioning why they do what they do with the adhesives.

I was just blind to anything else and I was very loyal to them for 7 years....but then I had lots of issues build up over time and I said goodbye....still working out some flat glass stock, but I have been off the auto for almost a year now....

llumar ATR and I will not complain about the price. Save time on every job because it is easier to work with....besides I get more for a car without the front doors or strip on them than I find most in Indiana are getting for the whole car....but I also found that I am 50% less than a fairly close shop in Effingaham IL the other day....
Devil with bad attitude
I'd bash them....nothing but warranty claims.
I've had a gut full of it and glad I don't use it anymore.

been there. are you getting occasional milky streaks parallel to the squeege pass? i use a little more soap and smaller length blue max and it works for me.

DPS= Training Wheels for Window Film

8 yrs of flat glass and you just figured out reverse rolling? Fbigeyes.gif

I gotta hand it to you, your post is very restrained. I'd be posting in all caps... Flaugh.gif

+1,000,000,000

Maybe if I worked with someone it wouldn't be bad, but as a solo-guy I just can't see using a PS type film day in and day out. It would drive me nuts.
darkdan
PS, DPS, Dry....whatever.

As long as it goes onto the window.

What I'm more concerned about is how the squeegee glides on the SR coating. Some you can squeegee with very little solution on it, others it will catch like crazy if it's not soaking wet!

which films are those sticky ones? I have used Johnson, Sungard, and Llumar on auto, and Johnson, Sungard, Suntek, and Madico on flat.....not had any issues with this.

Some MFG's offer both PS and Dry... so it's not limited to certain MFG's.

Of the few flats I've used 3M is horrible about it. Madico and V-Kool "barely" do it. Hanita doesn't do it at all.

Depending on which squeegee I use has a big impact on it too. But 3M does it with just about any squeegee you use. Even a soft black channel squeegee.

hey V,
If you notice my quote of Darkdan then you will see what the question I asked and you quoted was about.......

I understand that PS has its place, but for 99% of the flat glass I will do it is a pointless exercise for me. DPS is really a joke.....only way I will do more is warranty or if a repeat customer calls and wants more windows done with the same film from before.

Wow... I thought it was just me. I've installed MMM a little over the past year or so and I thought it acted differently then what I'm used to. I just figured it was something I was doing differently.
darkdan
Yeah, it's the velco SR coating.

For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
